Is black toning ever desirable?

I saw a Merc this weekend, toned a nice, even, smooth ebony. I know most people say "black toning=not good", but this one was so even and smooth I found it attractive.
Anyone else ever see a black toned piece they liked?

I don't care it either. AND given that this coin got a body bag, for "environmental damage" from NGC, it's hard to believe that a black toned silver coin would get into a holder.
Sometimes black toning hides an old cleaning that would otherwise make a coin undesirable, or unslab-able as the case might be.
Is it desirable? It depends on either your eye appeal or your moral barometer.
NGC calls it BN , I would call it BLK .

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
I've seen some BEAUTIFUL crescent toned Morgan dollars that had a jet black crescent. Very stricking! However, when the coin is completely black, it's not desireable.

I'd buy a truely black morgan any day
I have seen Bob Campbell's black Morgan twice. Both times, I said to myself that I would love to own a coin like that.
nothing desireable to me
