What's the grade on that 1909 $5?
I really need to get me on of those character pieces.....

AU50, it could swing eitherway as XF45 or AU53. It is a 1909 O and it gets treated a little differently when graded as a key date.

<< <i>What was the point of this thread? Something along the lines of if it's our own kid or our own puppy dog it is good looking and smart? Unfortunately many of these are the coins that dealers charge a premium for but when you go to sell all you only get offered is bullion prices. Gold AU's and lower are great collector coins, but as investments beware. >>
WTF? ddbird originated this thread, saying that he's starting to like circulated gold, and would like to see other people's gold coins. You have a problem with people sharing their coins (pictures) with others? Did anyone in this thread ask anything about investment? or buying and selling these coins? If they did, I must have missed it.
THE POINT IS TO LOOK AT AND SHARE CIRCULATED GOLD COINS. I LOVE THE LOOK OF THEM. I CAN INVEST IN REAL ESTATE ANYTIME. NOT EVERYTHING IS MONEY ORIENTED.
You invest in a $100 bag of 90% silver coins.....
You purchase a 1854-D $3 in VF/XF because you collect coins.....
You purchase a F-12 CC $5 gold coin because you collect coins.....
All coin collectors aren't just investors.....
I have enjoyed looking at these nice coins

Most of these coins sell for far more than melt. Any collector would laugh at a dealer who offered melt for any of these coins.

Yeah, particularly that '09 0, and then there's that '54 D...yepper, those are sure losers along with that '49 D...oh yes, that '52 O is just a futile exercise...all them cc's are a waste of buks too.
but the 1868S.. hah. i wish that one cost melt.
try triple melt for that one.
this reminds me......I gotta take a look at some auctions.

<< <i>Love the look of that Shane. >>
That's all the gold I own and my Dad found this one in the trash last year
Unfortunately....I still had to buy it from him
I grade it an EF40 though some would probably call it a VF30-35................it does have some mint luster in the protected area.
<< <i>I'll be a good sport and offer twice melt for all 54-D $3's (any condition). Heck, if they are XF or better, I will pay thrice melt. >>
Hell, I'll offer twice melt for ANY treys.
