Asked a few dealers here in Chicago.
Responses:
A bunch of 3 legged MS Buffaloes....NO
A really nice 1909 VBD Proof Cent... a definite possibility...I'll look at the 66 in the Heritage Auction
A Quintuple Eagle... again a definite possibility...there are about 4-5 in the LB auctions.
A 1796 $2 1/2 About $100K, but mught stretch
Your thoughts???

Edited to add: $50K is so far out of my ball park that I can't even conceive of spending that much on a coin.
<< <i>I could round up 8 to 10 houses where I live for that kind of money. >>
Wha??? Good Lord man where do you live? Because I'm moving...we're about to be neighbors. 50K barely covers a down payment on a respectable house here.

I never said anything about them being "respectable."
Probably this coin!!!
So I'd buy a mix of gold stocks, silver bullion, and some gold bullion.
Note- not a particularly good call based on what happened Friday.
Maybe buy some gold and bullion once it finished correcting.......

They hold their value through market ups and downs.
* All of the CC-mint dimes from 1871 to 1874 in choice VF to EF condition;
* 1796-97 Draped Bust/Small Eagle Half Dollar in F-12.
I don't think a sharp market correction would hurt either one of these very much.
