I have not been able to find anything on the Mint site regarding this fabled coin... and it is not on the release schedule. Where does the information regarding the potential issuance come from? Are there any links to authentic publications? Thanks, Cheers, RickO

Images first seen on one of America’s most beloved circulating coins will be returning on a limited-edition, 24-karat gold proof coin.
Originally designed by sculptor James Earle Fraser for the circulating five-cent coin in 1913, both the American Indian portrait depicted on the obverse, and the strong American bison on the reverse, helped define our Nation’s coinage in the first half of the 20th Century.
This new coin will carry a face value of $50 and will contain one ounce of 24-karat, or .9999 fine, gold mined from natural deposits in the United States or its territories. Beginning in June, 2006, these proof coins will be sold directly to the public by the United States Mint.
An American Buffalo bullion coin will also be available through authorized purchasers. To learn more about United States Mint investor coins, please visit www.usmint.gov for additional information.

they're melting them and turning them into BUFFALOS !
i'd rather have one of those than the proof.

Your right, and given a choice i'd like the uncirculated
Yes good idea... if anyone is an authorized dealer and can say with certainty that they will be getting some, please let me know.

Yes!

I read that there is a 'traditional dip in June, July and Aug for gold'. Apparently this is because India and maybe some other country who are MAJOR comsumers of Gold are past the 'wedding' time, or something like that.
Take it for what it's worth, but I'd like to see a pull back to about $600, then rally past $800 to the end of the year.
A dip here would be great for the Buffalo. They're greedy but they can't ask $900 for $600 worth of gold.

As long as they haven't announced a price you're OK because if gold continues down the price when announced will be lower. But once they announce it we will be stuck with it even if the spot prices keeps dropping. The reverse of that is not true though If the spot price is rising they will continue to change the price upwards even after it is publicly announced.

They did bring it back. $885! What a ripoff.

I had missed that - I suppose this means that the coin will not include any gold bought on the open market without some kind of proof of origin?
