silly Signature question

Having never bid in one of Heritage's Signature auctions, this question may seem a bit naive to all you veterans, but what is the point of listing the "Current Bid" on the web? And if the "Current Bid" happens to be the highest Secret Maximum, doesn't it give the floor bidders an "advantage" (advantage in quotes cause I guess the internet bidders can be thought of nothing more as the prior bidder had they bid live??)

If the current bid wasn't listed, internet bidders would be shooting in the dark. I doubt too many people would bid without knowing where the price stood.
