I have to admit it, the kid looks great. Great find for the Red Sox however they got him.

Yes, he did. There are a few other pitchers on their way to Boston from the farm system as well.

  • I had a buddy who played AA with the Portland Sea Dogs (Boston). He said their team was ridiculous. Sounds to me like the Sox organization is in great shape in terms of prospects.

Henley Ramierz played for Portland quite a bit, he now is starting SS for the Marlins.

I was one of those who were moaning and groaning about Papelbon not being in the starting rotation this year, but I have to admit, I wouldn't change thing right now. Sure, he could be the next Roger Clemens, but right now, I don't mind him being the next Mariano Rivera or Dennis Eckersley either. I certainly feel better with him closing than Foulke, even though Foulke isn't pitching all that bad right now.

    Exactly as I assumed.

No thanks, sir, your advances are not welcome here.

But back on the original topic, papelbon continues to impress, and makes the yanks wish they had a farm system with which to pull young talent from.

    Axhole,

I had no idea you had such insight and pull within the Yankees inner circle as to be in the know regarding what they are wishing for. Congrats on your new found fantasy career !

BTW....it was nice to see you leave the Yankees out of another post that had nothing to do with them, keep up the good work slugger !

one doesn't have to be in the 'inner circle' to see the yankees are pissing themselves right now as they have no contigency plan for when they have 2 of their best players go down with injury at the same time, and no young talent pool to pull from.

I am sure queen george is on the phone non stop, trying to buy another player. Too bad he has nothing to trade!

Another instance where you take your warped personal feelings of hatred and spin doctor it into false facts. Damn, it just never gets old thinking you have insight into something you are clueless about does it ?

Once again you have found a way to turn a non Yankee post into something it wasnt intended to be. By tomorrow you will be whining and soiling your trousers with grief over how many Yankee posts there are without realizing you once again are the cause.

If you want to place blame, look in the mirror sparky. You are the one who felt the need to insult me in this thread, so YOU, sir, are the rerailer.

What false facts did I post? I said 'I am sure queen george is on the phone non stop'. I didn't say he was, I didn't say it was FACT. I know it must be tough to understand, but it's called 'assumptions', and if you'd open your damned eyes long enough to READ and COMPREHEND then you'd understand. Initial reports have the yankees shopping for several name outfielders, so please, enough with the 'stop picking on the yankees!' crap outta your mouth.

Papldudeface aside, I believe the Yankees may have af few back-ups to Sheffield and Matsui. There will be no crying in baseball. Bernie, Crosby and others will fill the bill.

I could care less about the yankees being picked on. I just consider you a big pathetic joke with nothing better to do. ITs comical how you have zero interest in discussing your own team. And besides, you know what they say about assuming things......but I think you already proved what an a$$ you were long before assuming anything.

And where are the initial reports that they yankees are shopping for anything ? Did you get those reports from the same source that gave you the WTC info ? I will not let you go on that ever. YOu insulted me, my family, my friends, and everyone else involved when you went ahead and made up lies and false sources about what happened that day. Until the end of time on these boards I will continue to call you out for the waste of humanity that you are.

No, you are a waste of humanity because you take something very sad and close to many people and make a mockery of it by spewing lies and false claims about it. You were already beat down for lying in that thread....in case you forgot I will remind you.....you claimed something as fact regarding the WTC....after everyone got all over you, you eventually admitted that it wasnt fact, but instead your opinion.

There is a world of difference between blabbing on and arguing opinion and facts regarding sports, and taking a serious world altering act of terror and claiming facts that werent facts. You cant possibly realize what a slap in the face that is to people who were here and saw what actually happened and were affected by it. For that I call you a waste of humanity. It isnt often I have those feelings towards anyone, but you sir managed to bring it out. It is for that reason alone that I hope if something tragic happens to you or your family that you arent exposed to such a pitiful display of carelessness.

Maybe you should just for once think about what you say before saying it, and do some growing up yourself.

Bowman Chrome rookie cards of Papelbon - two Chrome cards, and three regular Bowmans...not bad, JS!

I just sent my Chrome Refractor RC of him in for grading, it was as mint as can be, grades popped yesterday and it came back as a PSA 9. I'll take it though, probably going to be his best RC to have.

    Jerry,

I sniffed out the buzz about Paplebon being the Sox closer before the draft. How did you let that one slip by? image

I know - I had him in my watch list, but kept waiting during the draft hoping no one would notice him. But, I let it wait a few rounds too many...

I saw you moved up to #2 yesterday, right behind me. Both of us were in the middle of the pack this time last month, so who knows how the season will unfold. I will say I am enjoying this league very much so far, a lot of knowledgeable owners to contend with!

Interestingly, Francona said last night in response to "Is Papelbon available after pitching the last two games?" that "yes, he's young, he's available" (or something to that effect)...in contrast to the Joe Torre opinion in NY. I think both managers are right.

Papelbon only pitched one inning each game (OK, not last night, but only one pitch in the 8th), so he is fresher tonight than Rivera was last night.

Hopefully someone will club Freddy Krueger (Tavarez) in the knees so Francona will stop using him.

I'm hoping that before the trade deadline the Sox trade away Tavarez, Foulke, and Seanez for a case of brand-new baseballs.

What's up with this - the Mariano thread has less replies than the Papelbon thread 44-39. Rivera is going to the HOF, Papelbon is a mere rookie. I'm confused.
  • ConnecticoinConnecticoin Posts: 12,863 ✭✭✭✭✭
Papelbon has almost twice as many saves, and Mariano's ERA is over 8 times Papelbon's, that's why.

Everyone is waiting for the day he get's rattled, but it's not happening.

Remember, this is only the beginning for him. Hopefully next year, we'll get to see a rotation headed by Schilling, Beckett, and Papelbon. That is, if they can find someone to close games half as well as he can.

Even the boys on PTI would pick Papelbon over Rivera at this point.
