Extra "corn leaf" on a Franklin Half??

bushmaster8

Could this possibly be the same phenomenon as the Wisconson quarters?

What the heck is that extra metal on the right bell hanger bolt??

bushmaster8

sTILL LOOKING FOR ONE OF THESE....

AngryTurtle

I know nothing about these, but looks to me a lightly mispunched "D" over the right bell hanger.

I've always thought this was a strike-thru. I'll have to email Wexler to see what he says.

ricko

Is that recessed? Hard to tell from the picture. Cheers, RickO

richbeat

To me, it looks like it's the other D.

bushmaster8

Still searching...check your 54-D's!

MsMorrisine

I'll have what he's having!

derryb

cud?

PawPaul

I can see no way that it could possibly be a "D" over the hanger bolt ; it could not be punched down into the concave portion of the die

WoodenJefferson

I've seen metal lathe shavings create a pattern as such (curled) just throwing that out there.

I saw a '54-D/D RPM-001 on Ebay a couple months ago and it did not have the "corn leaf". It was a nice PCGS 65FBL, I would have bought it if it wasn't so overpriced. I think I saved the closeup pics of the MM. I'll see if I can find them to post to this thread.

1954-D/D RPM-001

Here's another 1954-D to look for. This was published in CW as a possible RPM and dual mintmark, D/D & S.
