Coin fun in Dearborn MI!
Coin fun in Dearborn MI!
Since everyone was in Atlanta, I figured picking off proof sets would be better in Dearborn MI. So James Sego (not a modern marketmaker WANNABE!) and I show up for the show Thurs night and he gets his table set up. I would like to thank Brian for sharing his steak with me! I got in from the airport at 9PM Thurs and everyone was at dinner already. I wasn't really hungry but wanted to say hello. I'm having a beer while everyone was eating and Brian kept cutting me a strip of steak and I kept telling him I wasn't really hungry! He cuts it up and starts feeding it to me. The whole table was rolling!
At 8AM Fri Morning. I hit the floor Friday morning. 1st table, I score 5 1968 proof sets with hands down DCAM Kennedys and 3 1964 proof sets with DCAM Kennedys! I move on, I hit a table and there is one guy looking through coins in the case. I ask the seller for the box of proof sets on the back of the table. The guy who is looking through the case gives me a very nasty look. He looks at my badge sees the name and says "You're Mad Marty!", I look at his name tag and it says Jeff Werlin. I ask why he is here and not in Atlanta. He gives the same reason I have been giving everyone all week! Val Webb is in Atlanta, so the pickings are better here! I scored some nice CAM proof sets and some very nice toned Canada $1s. After the bourse closed.... James Sego says "Let's head over to the casino in Windser". So we drive through the tunnel from Detroit and hit the casino. I get $400 CDN from the cash station and sit down at a video poker machine. It one of the ones that has 4 games, 20 quarters and if you win game one you move up to game 2 and so on. The payouts double every time you move up on level. So I'm playing on the same hundred bucks for about 45 minutes and I'm down to 150 quarters in the machine. Get a pair on the 1st hand, and move up to the second level. I get 4 to the royal, I hold the 4 cards, look at Sego and go "A king of hearts would sure be sweet!". I hit the deal button and sure as hell the King of hearts shows up! ROYAL FLUSH! 8000 quarters, that's $2000 CND, exchanged for $1800 USD!!! More coin shopping for me today!!!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

Are there any other coin shows in the Detroit area in the near future? I live very close.
How was the overall attendance?
Glad it's been a good show for you and James. How did he do at the casino?
Sego lost $100.
I'm on my way to the show now - hope to see you there.
I can save a bunch of time now that I now that you and Werlin have purchased every worthwhile proof set with cameos in them.

That's why GOD created vacation days...
The one time I should have come out ahead playing the casino's, I had the Mustang jump timing on the way back home.
Yup, you guessed it , repair was a bit more then the winnings...

A mentor awarded " YOU SUCK!!"
As a stiking mechanic at northwest airlines for the last 7 1/2 months, I would not set foot in an establishment that harbored the scab replacement workers who took the jobs of hard working men and woman. I figured that some of you would like to know this... ps...the forum would not allow me to post the whole article because of a forbidden word in the url title. If anyone is interested in reading the whole article...just pm me and I will send it to you...Joe

DEARBORN, Mich. Aug. 23 - Every morning, afternoon and evening for the last few days, groups of airline mechanics, accompanied by security guards, stride out of the Hyatt Regency hotel here. They board a pair of yellow school buses, the windows taped over with white paper to hide who is inside.
I'm at a loss for words, but I'll give it a try. Who cares?

What does a strike at NW airlines have to remotly do with a coin show in Dearborn? FYI, I flew in on American.
<< <i>Many of the "replacement" workers were being put up at the Hyatt. >>
Who gives a rat's ass! I'm here for a coin show. His comments had no place on this forum.
What else could I do?I didn't like you staring at me and drooling all over the place.
I was happy to share.
