I watched that game between the M's and Angels. Putz sucks. Even Eddie Guardado was getting rocked and barely escaped in the 9th. The Mariners are going to be pathetic again this year because of their pitching, except for that kid Felix Hernandez.

Pinero had a solid first outing, 6 1/3, 2 runs...it's still early, hitters have the advantages in april.

Putz, well what do you expect for a guy named that.

Watch out for Kenji Johjima, rookie catcher, 2 games, 2 home runs.

The bullpen almost blew it again.

Richie Sexson knocks in a couple more, 7 RBI in 3 games, picking right up where he left off last year when he was robbed of comeback player of the year.

Washburn was solid, and some on this board questioned the M's picking him up. 7IP, 2 earned, 7 Ks, no walks, 100 pitches.

If he can put up appearances like that consistenly from the 3 hole, I like that move.

And yes, I am eager to see how Felix does in his first start this year.

Axtell..why do you say s**t like this when you know that as a rule, pitchers have the advantage early in the season.

What was the reason given for the US pitchers doing so poorly in the WBC?

It's early, they aren't in midseason form, yadda yadda. I can't help but think batters have the advantage early in the season.

And softy, you didn't see me posting MARINERS RULE based on one game like some on this board, did you? I simply said Washburn had a solid outing (he did) and that if he can continue, picking him up was a great move (which it would be).

    What's your problem?

hey man, that was not me so you are beat there. You spouted all winter about how Johnson would struggle just like I spouted off on Washburn. So for you to come on here and be all giddy and call out those who critized Wasburn on April freaking 5th is a "tad" pathetic.

There's a difference between hoping the #3 pitcher in the rotation can do this all year, and all I did was call his performance solid. Hardly 'giddy', even by your extreme overexaggerations. Please tell me where I was all 'giddy' as you so eloquently called it?

    I'll wait.

    No, please look for me...

    That's what I thought.

Nothing to do with sour grapes for a yankee, but for a player who came back from SELF INFLICTED injury. It's not like he tore a hammy, or anything of the sort. He got himself sick and injured from STEROID USE. That should automatically disqualify you for any sort of honor.

But because he half-assed apologizes (never said why he was apologizing, and only did so after his testimony in which he admitted using leaked), and he's a yankee, he wins the award.

Who cares, really. Sexson's a solid player and I'm glad he's a Mariner.

    # 3 starter huh? image Yeah, the Seattle Mariners blow MILLIONS on a guy to be their #3 starter LOL. I don't care WHERE he started the season in the rotaion, that is NOT #3 money. If anything it is the M's realizing the mistake.

Jamie Moyer is the established #1 on the staff, and Felix will likely be the #1 next year, if he progresses as most feel he will (and Moyer is likely done after this year).

Pinero is a solid #2, been here longer. So Washburn goes to #3.

And sometimes you have to pay more than market value when the supply is low.

Call it what you want. Over spending/blowing cash to get the decent starter. Its not a bad idea to do that ..... but Washburn? I guess thats why the games are played. Good luck

He struck out the side in the ninth tonight. ESPN is showing him with a save, but they were up 4 runs...I thought save ops had to be 3 run lead or less?

Johima 2-4 again, Sexson getting another RBI, and Meche a respectable 2 ER in 5 1/3. Looks like they are keeping the pitchers right at 100 pitches. Carl 'Dinosaurs didn't exist!' Everett hit his first home run, and Ichiro batting .353 through 4 games (even though April is his worst hitting month through his career).

    Ahh springtime, hope springs eternal.

    Axtell,

He came in the game with 2 on 2 outs in the eighth, the tieing run was on deck so that qualifies it as a save under rule #2

    1. He comes into the game with a lead of no more than three runs, and pitches at least one full inning.
    2. He comes into the game with the potential tying run being either on base, at bat, or on deck. In other words, the potential tying run is either already on base or is one of the first two batters he faces.
    3. He pitches at least three "effective" innings (this is the only subjective criterion and is judged by the official scorer).

Ahh all I caught was the last inning, didnt know he was in the 8th.

Hopefully this outing gives him some confidence...lord knows he needs it.
