How often do 1806 Half Dollars come up for sale?

There's one at my dealers store in VF and I'm just wondering if these are readily available or not.

They are fairly available. You should almost always be able to find one.

If this coin is really beautiful, original, and untampered with, that is a reason to seriously consider it. If not, you can wait.

more often than I see 1805 and before, but less often than all of the later dates.

I think that 1806 is the most common date in the Draped Bust, Large Eagle series. I've seen more of them than the 1807, which is the other common date.

BUT as Julian says if the coin is an original, attractive VF, it's worth going after if that is the grade that fits your budget. Nice, original early coins are not easy to find this market. They are NOT widgets.

Here is an 1806 O-109a that looks good to me. The stars and bust are well struck but the hair is weak..
An original coin IMO.
