<< <i>Yep....I "bought" one to get it off the list so that they would have one less possible pain in the a$$ to worry about. Did I expect to get it? Nope.
Least they could do would be leave me positive feedback >>
Same here (actually I "bought" the last 4.) All I can say is that I had better not receive anything from Ebay saying that a non-paying bidder complaint had been lodged since I didn't bother to Paypal.
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.
I got the *Purchase Instructions* in email and will probably keep them to show someone in the future what it was like when the coin market crashed in 2006.
I got to the coins before they were picked-over, so I had a nice selection to choose from. I picked four that I actually liked. Did the rest of you pick coins that you liked, or did you just buy indiscriminately? Although, I guess it's hard NOT to like any of them for $1
Mistakes happen-- I sure hope everyone understands and doesn't give them grief over it, and I sure as heck hope that none of the bidders demand their purchase or threaten a neg---- at least none of "our" members.
<< <i>I don't know if it's fair to neg them, but the deal should go through. Would the seller accept the excuse that someone accidentally bid too much for their coin? It should work the same way for both buyers and sellers. Whatever you put as the BIN, even if it's incredibly stupid, should stand. You have to assume that everyone using Ebay is an adult.
I know it sucks, but why should the rules be different for sellers? >>
What happened to ethics and honest mistakes? If you had done the same thing on accident would you honor the sale on the same coin? I think not! And if you say you would, I highly doubt that! >>
If I made the same mistake, I would expect the same rules to apply to me that apply to bidders. If I bid $100 on a coin instead of $10, the auction doesn't get nullified. It's at the seller's discretion whether or not to forgive that mistake. By the same token, Ebay shouldn't stop the transaction for this one. It's up to the buyer to decide what to do about the error. If it was me, I'd at least expect some kind of compensation, if for no other reason than that buying me off will save them the value of the coin. I'd have to think about what value would be fair, but it's not at Ebay's discretion, or the seller's. This is strictly the buyer's prerogative.
If you haven't noticed, I'm single and miserable and I've got four albums of bitching about it that I would offer as proof.

While I agree with some of the point you made, the one fact you left out is there is not a "Bid it now", meaning if you hit $100.00 you will most likely have time to cancel your bid and re enter $10.00, unless you try to snipe and hit the wrong ammount. Also Chaces are if you are going to bid $10.00 the coin prolly is not worth $100.00 so you would not have to outbid anybody at those prices and would get it for far less. Just some thoughts

Whats the better thing for Superior. Forum members buying them and getting them off Ebay or letting other people buy them who would probably push to get the coins ? My bet is that all Forum members will just let it ride with no complaints. I will for sure.
Dig it out Buddy. This certainly is not the first time Superior has done this Bone Head move.
I sold some stuff on Ebay a while ago using a BIN. I put the wrong amount for the BIN and it sold instantly thus losing me hundreds of dollars. I still honored the bid because that is what people with good customer service do!
I don't expect Superior to give all these coins out for $1 but something is needed. They entered a legally binding contract and owe us at least something... even if it is just a thank you.
Just tonight I had an auction end where part of my description said shipping was free yet another part laid out the shipping charges. I let it slide, ate the $5, it wasn't a a big deal. On situations like this though it's incredible that anybody feels the seller owes them anything. To each his own but I wouldn't have hit the button in the first place, knowing it was an obvious mistake.

Well, given that they weren't going to honor the sale, it was your choice to pay--you could have done nothing and still had your money.
Several years ago I made an oops on 5 ten ounce bars of silver bullion. I added an extra zero on a snipe with no time to retract.
The seller sure as Hell didn't let me off the hook. We had a few emails and he said he understood I had made a mistake because the price was 10 times more than they were worth. The next day I got a phone call from his lawyer.
It will take a huge increase in silver before I ever break even on that deal.
I know they made a stupid mistake, but still. To just refund your $$ and walk away like they are royalty doesn't cut it. They at least owe a very serious thank you to the folks around here. I think they owe a bit more than that as well.

Yeah, I know. And being out $8.50 for a few days isn't a big deal. I actually wasn't going to pay, but the devil in me got the best of me. I just thought it would be pretty cool to have a receipt for a coin that I'd never be able to afford, so I payed or it! Like I said before though, no complaints from me. It was an honest mistake on their part.
Given the great deal that some of us got wouldn't it be nice of us to give positive feedback tonight before the coins came in?
"Great deal!!!!!!! Thanks you!!!!"

Deadhorse is right, top quality organizations would recognized their mistake and make some kind of deal both parties could live with. I am sure not all the items were purchased by forum members or individuals that will let it slide. A few of the buyers are surely going to be a pain in the backside for Superior.

Fairlaneman I am not calling you a rat or a thief. There were those of you who bought the coins to save face for Superior. Thats the good side to all of this. Then there are those who really think they are going to get the coins, and will fight tooth and nail for them.
Bochiman granted alot of great people on this board and across the street as well. Its not the mere fact that they were bought up off the market, but the fact that people seemed to want to boast about getting the coins so cheap. Now granted a vast majority of the folks who bid, did so in good faith and as a favor for Superior, but a fair many of them did pay for the auctions. That to me said they thought there was a chance they could recieve the coin(s) won. And that is what is wrong. If you bid knowing you would not recieve the coin(s) and did it out of respect of the honest mistake, I have no problems with that what so ever. It the few bad apples that ruin it.

Nope....still disagree. If someone bid, and was fine if they didn't get the item (good person award)...cool If someone bid and paid and then didn't get the item (got refund and email like is happening)....also cool If somoene bid, paid, got the refund/email, and then whined....THAT is not cool.
Too generalize and paint people in the bad light you did "thiefs", etc, also not cool.
Just because someone paid doesn't make them bad.....heck, if they got the coin and superior owned up to the mistake and made right to those that paid, and wrote it off as business/marketing/stupidness, then those that didn't pay would be the fools, right?
Just curious, are there any eBay guidelines that would require Superior to honor their mistake?
I am gathering from what I have read that this is not the first time this has happened with them. Perhaps if they were hit in their wallet it would make them pay attention.
For the record, I did not buy any of these goodies even though I saw it early enough on that I could have.
Superior needs to be more professional about their ebay service, not a good reflection on how they handle business in general.
I was just looking at their ebay store. In the subheadings, they have a category listed as "Golf". I was highly disappointed to find rare "Gold" coins instead. I was hoping to find the secret to golf.
I think they should offer some type of discount or freebie along with the apology.
Bochiman I will agree to what you said. Some people paid for there own reasons, which I may not understand. Yes I will agree I was in the wrong when I used the words "Rats and thiefs" But you will see who was just helping out and who wanted the coins. I hope everybody who bid was in your first 2 categories. Now per chance they were to send the coins out to the ones that paid(which they are not going to), then they got a deal of a lifetime. Still does not make the others fools.
It was an error, but when we have stuff like this happen on occasion we usually send the bidder some sort of gift like a book in the $10 to $20 range to make up for it....think that they could do something like that and have much better positive response from the bidders....
Top notch firms usually provide some kind of compensation for that kind of mistake. Usually in the form of a discount on a future purchase or some small gift. I am kind of shocked to hear just an apology was offered. Oh heck, just neg'em, you'll feel better.
Andy, I think some ARE going to hold Superior's feet to the fire. They are probably just not posting it because of the negative vibe they already received from other forum members for just bidding and paying.
<< <i>Andy, I think some ARE going to hold Superior's feet to the fire. They are probably just not posting it because of the negative vibe they already received from other forum members for just bidding and paying. >>
To answer gator 5220's question: YES, there ARE E-bay guidelines about these types of transactions. When you place a bid the page comes up and tells you that this is a BINDING contract you are making. The same thing goes for when you are listing an item. E-bay states that the seller assumes all responsibilities for the listing. That's why some of our unfortunate board members have lost out, BOUTH, when buying and selling. How much does silver have to go up before one of our members has to go until he breaks even? OUCH!
We ALL make mistakes and sometimes have to pay for them. Even here on the boards we get into fights, name calling, etc. WE can't ALL be adaults ALL the time. Sometimes it's OK to have fun! When you get mean spirited and look for blood like the mob mentality that goes around here sometimes, that's BAD! I SALUTE each and every person here that has he;ped out Superior for their goof! For those whom try and get the coins, remember, you get what you pay for, and what comes around goes around! Just my opinion! Ray

<< <i>They might use turbo lister and you can pre fill the price so all you would need to do it put $1.00 once and it would happen that easy. Its a mistake and everybody who buys any of these coins at a dollar is just a low rat and a thief if you ask me. >>
Have yourself a drink and lighten up. It's hilarious.... amusing.... and just plain funny to see someone like Superior do that kind of fubar. >>
Sure it might all be in fun and games for some of us, but there are those people who will drag this out and make it hell for the seller. Size does not matter if any coin dealer made that mistake they should be granted a free pass sorta speak. Not nailed to the wall like Jesus and left to die. >>
So, since most people on this board aren't the type to be a PITA on this, why are you moaning about them being the ones to get the BIN @ $1 off the market? Seems to me that most would be greatful for that. >>
If someone bid, and was fine if they didn't get the item (good person award)...cool
If someone bid and paid and then didn't get the item (got refund and email like is happening)....also cool
If somoene bid, paid, got the refund/email, and then whined....THAT is not cool.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
I am gathering from what I have read that this is not the first time this has happened with them. Perhaps if they were hit in their wallet it would make them pay attention.
For the record, I did not buy any of these goodies even though I saw it early enough on that I could have.
Ask me no questions, I'll tell you no lies.
I was just looking at their ebay store. In the subheadings, they have a category listed as "Golf". I was highly disappointed to find rare "Gold" coins instead. I was hoping to find the secret to golf.
I think they should offer some type of discount or freebie along with the apology.

<< <i>Andy, I think some ARE going to hold Superior's feet to the fire. They are probably just not posting it because of the negative vibe they already received from other forum members for just bidding and paying. >>
The sad truth of it all is you are correct
word that
No, I didn't pay but I did send them an email telling them that I don't expect the coins but I do want to swap positive feedback
Ray
Netrubicon, thank you for an entertaining evening! And kudos to the forum members who helped Superior out.
