Are you a Numismatic snob?

This has less to do with the value of the coins you collect, but rather, your attitude toward the coins you don't collect and the people who collect them.
1. Do you denigrate the types/series of coins that you aren't interested in?
2. Do you have little to no respect for the accomplishments of those who collect the types/series of coins that you aren't interested in.
3. Do you have an us versus them attitude towards those who collect the types/series of coins that you aren't interested in.
If you answered yes to one or more, you're a coin snob!

Come on... be honest...
I for one, enjoy collecting Jeffersons... that turned into my niche because I could never afford collecting the quality of coins I like in other older series... I still love those coins, but just can't afford them.

I specialize in Wisconsin currency! Looking for information on WI national banknotes. Census stands at 12,318 notes.
**"Wisconsin National Bank Notes - 2nd Edition" is out!!!" Only $20PPd!!!
Yes, but only against those who collect stinky, smelly paper. Future toilet paper
Oh, and Modern Crap is just... Beneath me. Why smoe people would collect pocket change is... Inconceivable.

Except maybe Moderns.

Yes, I am. I don't collect moderns minted after 1970.

or play money? I didn't even know what some of the junk was when the collections were be-
gun. Some turned out to be potentially desirable and rare like the charge tokens. Others
like the tool checks will forever remain ignored but they still make interesting collections.
People who ignore modern US coins are simply missing a bet.
...But I don't look down my nose at them.

<< <i>Nah, definitely not. That doesn't mean that I'll deal in them. I probably have done a deal or deals in just about anything you can think of over the years and I like some areas more than others of course, but I don't put anyone down for what they collect. >>
Great attitude!

Does this make me a Coin Snob ?
Ken
I guess not. I still have lunch with you after the local shows every few months, John, even though you only collect Frankies and Lincolns
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
Then one day I met a snob. I ran home crying. When my mom said, "what's the matter, joe ? .... I said , "mom, today I met a snob and I tried to kill him with kindness but he wouldn't die".
The lesson was priceless. Love is a good thing. I don't see the coin snobs. I guess I'm protected.
I could show you a lot of d..kheads, though

It's okay to post dickhead.

(I'm stuck on 1.)
I just like Lincolns, Lincoln varieties and Kennedy halves. Coins are coins no matter who they belong to. I won't be here forever and when I'm gone, someone else will be enjoying them. But while I'm here I'm going to have some great fun finding them. And all the better if I can help you find coins for your collection. If I could find you an 1801 HammerHead Washington Double-Dinger I would, but I wouldn't know one if I saw it. I do know a few things about variety cents and that's the best I can do even for myself. I applaud those of you who have taken your hobby to the heights beyong my reach. Naw, I'm no snob.

2.NO-- Please do spend your $10,000 on one modern coin while i spend my mere pittance on a nice classic.
3.No. Please do spend your money on stuff i dont want or need - that leaves more for me.
Edited to add:
Two exceptions-
I just plain don't understand doll collectors and Beanie Babies.

Collect for the love of the hobby, the beauty of the coins, and enjoy the ride.
Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society.
I love coins. But I think of the 1969 Mad Magazine definition of a patriot who said (a few years before Archie Bunker) "I Love America, but it's going downhill because of all the negroes, Jews, Polacks, Atheists, Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Arabs, Orientals, and commies who moved here." Mad Magazine's definition of an American patriot was someone like President Nixon, who loved America but hated 99% of the people who live here. (Does anyone remember David Frye, parodying Nixon, by saying "I love America, and you always hurt the one you love"?)
Yes I love coins, but refuse to buy 99% of what is offered. No offense intended to collectors of Frankies, Morgans, Saints, modern crap. or the coins I'll never be able to afford.

<< <i>1. Do I deni-what? >>
denigrate:
1. To attack the character or reputation of; speak ill of; defame.
2. To disparage; belittle.

I am a major salmon snob though. I refuse to eat Atlantic salmon or any farm raised salmon. I also don't eat Pinks (aka Humpys) or Chum (aka Dog) salmon.
Looking for Denmark 1874 20-Kroner. Please offer.
I just may one day get interested in collecting them. By the way, that has happened
to me a few times.
