So I'm at the recent Long Beach show and I come accross this Jefferson...

in an Ngc MS67 holder that clearly has full steps, but its not designated on the holder. I buy the coin for $30.00 and send it in for designation review. Then Ngc agrees and sends the coin back designated MS67 5FS. All is good. I didn't need the coin for my collection, just a way to make a couple bucks to help pay for my addiction. So I put the little jewel on Ebay and Bamm!!!

Full step Jefferson auction

The 41 D is a nice coin to have, just before the war series kicked off, but I'm sure you know that. There is a fair amount of collector interest in this coin so it's kind of weird that you got beat up on this one. Sorry...

Surprising to see the difference between PCGS and NGC plastic wrappers. The PCGS 67 sold for $120.00

Sorry to see your results image

The following are suggestions on things to change that will help you realize better prices:

Your title needs a bit of re-working. You always want to have the year, company, and grade as the first things. When people browse Ebay they look for key terms like a year, grade, or company name, they look at the first few words. If they dont see what they are looking for, they will go on. Sellers need to be sure they have this right at the front so it catches a potential bidder's eye. This is a personal preference but you will notice if you search EBay for "MS67" and "MS-67" you will get very different results. I would suggest putting both in the title if you have room.

Here is the title I would have used: "1948-D NGC MS67 5FS Jefferson Nickel Full Steps MS-67"

This is just another suggestion based on my limited experience, but I have found all of this helpful in realizing strong bid prices. The $5.00 shipping charge looks really high to people who dont notice that is is for Priority mail. You might consider adding another tier of shipping services and adding first class for a couple dollars. If you are going to do that though put it first on the list as that will be what is shown in searches.

I hope you understand that I am not putting you down for your auction technique. You auction style is still much better than a lot on EBay. This was just a bit of constructive criticism that I hope you will at least think about. You dont have to use it, but please just consider it.

A quick check of Teletrade shows $55 for a NGC 67 FS, $27 for PCGS 66 FS, and $45 PCGS 66 FS, same date. So best case would have been maybe $60. Doesn't look like there is much profit in these nickels even if a person is correct. Adding up postage, review fee, Ebay fee, Paypal fee, plus the cost of the coin make a pretty big nut to crack.

Sorry for the rotten luck. Someone ended up with a choice coin for the price. The suggestions you received were excellent and I hope they will be of service in the future.

I would agree with that except for the "1948" part.....it was a 1941 coin image

Those AREN'T nicks....that's just Jefferson's 5o'clock shadow...you are always finding tons of problems in other people's coins

I was thinking the same thing!

Also a pic of the coin and whole slab together might encourage
those worried about not getting the same coin pictured,
although yours had that dignostic slab scratch you mentioned.

image Excuses! Looked at it again! Those are nicks in the main focal area of the coin, the profile of the man!

Here's a coin I paid $120! (See website in my profile, click on upper left arrow for pictures of a 1951-D.)
I didn't want to but the coin really looks nice for the date. One of the best I've come across since the Nevadaman's sale in Pittsburgh! The coin's steps aren't even designated as full but they are very presentable with the coin's strike, condition and eye appeal. Yes, another NGC MS67 graded coin, but it doesn't grade any higher than a 5!
If those nicks weren't there, the coin would have sold for more. The coin's strike is very strong but the coin also needs to have 6 steps. The 1941-D is very common with 6 steps!
