1836 bust half with a "pretty" face and character

Something really attractive about this bust half. Planchet variations with a really nice strong strike. She also looks really pretty on this one. Want to take a shot at what NGC graded her?

O-115 R3, but I cannot see most of the key points for this marriage.

NGC AU55, IF it has sufficient luster. If the luster is not sufficient it could drop to NGC AU50.

I was going to say NGC AU-58... My "old fashioned" grade on it is AU-50, but love the originality.

I like the coin because it has the look of having its original skin. Many of these pieces are dipped white.

My guess is the coin will get at least an AU-55. I've had a couple NGC AU-50s, and they were no where near as nice as this piece.

  • I know this a late reply but having been linked to this thread, I can't help but say how much I like that 1836. I think as common as these coins supposedly are, it is very hard to find one as nice as this one, regardless of grade. Great find.

edited to add: in fact it's rather gorgeous!

Are you kidding me!!! EVERYTHING is really attractive about that bust half. I love it. Very nice. I was going to hang an AU55 tag on it. I think NGC might have got a little carried away with its overall eye appeal and given it another 3 points, but I'm not offended. Good eye!

I like and it is worthy of an original surfaces designation... I think it is better than 50 and misses 55 so its 53

edited to add... obviously I didn't read the whole threadimage
