Crops? Meat Ranch? Dairy Farm? What ya talkin' about here?
  • If it is in Iowa, it will be Corn or Soy Beams. One of my friends up there says thats all they have in that state. As he puts it "Corn and G** SH**"

I know what you are going through. I am in the process of putting a deal together on some land for our future home. The property is within 10 miles of Dahlonega as the crow flies, but is about 40 minutes by car. Although I'm not selling my collection, this will certainly put a damper on future available coin funds. This house has always been a dream of mine. If you want a farm...follow your dream.

I don't know about Iowa, but dirt appreciates nicely in my part of the country.

Besides, you don't have to worry about a 1 point difference image

  • Any details on how & when you'll be selling your set??
  • Hey, I agree there is nothing like a ranch/farm/land. We have 50 acres north of Austin, Texas just waiting for my coins to appreciate enough to put the ranch on it (and yes, there will be 'horsies' and longhorns!!)

There are a lot of tax benefits for farmers. You should check with your accountant or friendly tax lawyer.

    Selling my collection...to buy...a farm

Did the same thing last year to raise the down payment to buy my Grandfathers farm and keep it in the family. Havn't regretted it a bit...and actually helped me get more focused in my collecting. Good luck on the Iowa project. Havn't spent much time there, but I hear its good pheasant country...so it's O.K. with me!

  • Hey Greg, There are pheasants everywhere, most mornings this winter I would look out my window and see about a dozens of them feeding around my trees. If you like pheasant hunting you need to come up here, canadian geese also all over, many spend the summer here they are about to start nesting now in the next 2 weeks.

  • Here's a coincidence - I just happened to pull out an old CoinAge issue that was printed when the Iowa quarter was released...finished the article last evening! It went into quite a bit of depth about the agricultural heritage of the state, and mentioned several times about the extremely fertile soil left behind by the glacier flows. Corn & soybeans it is, indeed, these days, according to the article.

I grew up on a farm. My ex wife was from a farm. That ended my liking farms. I'll stick to coins. They don't run off with the neighbors.
