My first (and probably last) crackout experience

I tried my luck on four coins that I thought had upgrade shots.

Before:
1910-D $10 MS62
1912 $10 MS62
1903-O $10 MS62
1904 $20 MS63

After:
1910-D $10 MS62
1912 $10 MS62
1903-O $10 MS61
1904 $20 MS63

Not the best results but with only one downgrade the loss is'nt that bad; what grades were you expecting?

I did not expect anything to downgrade.

I was expecting AT LEAST one upgrade.

I thought the 1904 $20 was a lock for an upgrade. And I thought one of the indian eagles would upgrade as well.

BTW, this goes into NGC's coffers.

I take it this was PCGS to PCGS ? If so, I would think what happened to the 1903, otherwise, Congrats !!!!

Wow, one of the rare reports of consistency.

This is an interesting illustration of a collector who tries this once and is surprised / disappointed by the outcome, whereas the 'professionals' would probably crack out their coins multiple times each (as many times as necessary), in order to get the upgrade.

I’m very hesitant about cracking out coins in the MS60-62 grade range. The possibility of downgrading to an AU could be costly.
