I hate the old Rattler holders!

Everytime I st up my coins I have to spend 20 minutes hitting the darn holders to get the coins right side up. image

To much coin movement, the style was unattractive to me.

I'd switch over two coins, as I only need two more for a complete Peace Dollar set.....

The "Rattlers" designate a time and place and not a preference. I do like them however! image

I like looking at old rattlers for upgrades when they come from fresh collections, but I would not want coins placed in them now. As others said to much movement for one not to mention bad design.

The only reason the rattlers have any popularity at all is because the grading standards and practices that were in use at the time makes them attractive to people who like the crackout game. Sooner or later, all rattlers on the market will be a total ripoff, since they'll be the non-upgradable ones hyped as a vanishing breed of undergraded coins in slabs with a "rattler premium" attached to the price.

I would no sooner switch my coins to rattlers than install Windows 3.1 on my PC.

You could always put your coins in rattlers and then claim they are two point undergrades.image

    Is that a "yes" TomB?

I guess a realistic answer would be "No" since I slab very few coins and see little reason to change the flavor of the coins I have in slabs already.

And by extension, a "de facto" grading standard which is usually more conservative than today. So changing the holder wouldn't suddenly lead to tighter grading.

I wouldn't, but I would like to see them go back to the green label. I just don't like the light blue.

I'd never go back. The rattle holders were the pits. I hated them. Sometimes the movement would wear off part of the toning on the rim of the coin where it came in contact with the holder.

I broke a few coins out simply because I was concerned that they would be damged by the holder. The fortunate thing was when I got the coins regraded a few years later every one of them came back with a higher grade!

No way! The coins moved around and the seal was terrible.

The seal on the Old NGC No Line Fat Slab was worse! I had a buddy who had a collection of Mint State Morgans ans MS Barber Halves that toned a crummy color of GunMetal Grey around the Rims. A real unattractive color of toning!!

    No because of sealing problems.
Just got a rattler from a heritage auction that has water inside it and next to the coin.
I'll have to crack it soon.
