<< <i>Ok, so if the actual shipping comes to around $2 for all the items in one package, how do you justify the overage charge to the buyer?
and handling.
Joe. >>
I find that there are very few instances where a "handling" fee is really justified. It's just another excuse for a seller to make extra money on top of the auction bids. >>
If you don't charge for your time and effort, I've got a stable need shovelin' out. C'mon by and visit, willya?
<< <i>I recently had some stuff sell on ebay and one bidder bought 4 items which were all 1979 SBA's from a bank roll. His winning bid was 1 cent per coin (obviously not much interest in these). On the items I had $1.95 shipping. He sent me an email regarding combined shipping. I sent him back an email stating that I would cut the shipping cost in half for each additional coin he bid on ie 1.95 for the first 1 for the send .50 for the third etc. So the four coins came to about 3.75 for shipping which is what I invoiced him for (total $3.79). I then received another email telling me my mailing costs were to high for any standard usps shipping and could I explain to him why I was charging so much? I was going to lose it on him but decided to just respond that the shipping charges were clearly explained to him and if he did not agree he should not have bid and that I will gladly cancel the auction (and go spend the $4.00).
comments appreciated. >>
Totally unreasonable! Its guys like you trying to make a killing off of shipping costs that give Ebay a bad name. Those of us who charge "reasonable" shipping hate you because you drive business off of the bay. Get a life .... Just Joking the guy is an arss ban him
Thank you for all your input, I sure have learned a few lessons and am quite sure I will learn a few more. I received another email from this buyer stating that
I have only been asking what I was paying for. I have not tried to cause you problems.
1st (as I explained in my last email), you stated 'Standard Flat Rate Service'. The only such service costs $8.10. I still don't know how you're sending these, but (I'm guessing) it seems to be 1st Class. Secondly, the cost you've added is one I haven't been able to arrive at using the method you said you use. Thus, my questions. None of which were sent in an effort to 'bail' on the purchase.
I have not responded to him yet, I did check his feedback and his four negs in the past year seem to revolve around shipping and if you check items he has sold he clearly states
About mailing: Mailing cost for this coin -or any other similar coin- is only .40c. 1st Class mail...simple! Makes one wonder why so many are being required to pay so much more: $2.50, $3.00, $5.50, even $11.00 -we've all seen what shysters demand of buyers. IF you want to spend more than the .40c, send it...I'll line my pocket just like every other seller who makes totally excessive charges. How long will buyers let such conduct/practice continue?
So I did block him from further auctions and although I have never outed a seller before to the board I am going to just to save some of you the headache
The buyer is Sarge
Not sure what to respond with yet or even if it is worth a response, I think I wait til I calm down a bit..
There is nothing more powerful than the power of goodbye
