No tricks or gimmicks. I think the PCGS grade is accurate. How would you grade this one?

I'll reveal the full slab a little later on. . .

You guys are good! Especially Flamingo who got it right out of the gate.

    << <i>Eveningly Worn >>

Does this mean all the wear occurred at night? Do I want to know how? No!

I don't normally look at circulated Classic Commems. This one I would guess is VF20.

Do people actually collect such circulated Classic Commems? I know that some collect the LOWEST PCGS graded ones, but this one looks to be too high grade for those collectors. Maybe not.

  • Nice look to it.

Hold on while I check my classic commem grading book....

Now where did I put that thing.... image

    Wait....

Oh, I forgot, there isn't one. image

Ok, off the cuff I would say around VF30.

You guys are pretty dang good! (I'll post the full holder soon. . .)

I came across this coin about 20 years ago and had it holdered sometime in 1990 or so. It has the most smooth, even (eveningly!! image ) dove gray/brown tone to it with really, no marks.
I just liked the "look", even back then- and before I started to chase after extra super low grade problem free early Commemoratives.

I'd be afraid to discover these are probably not collectible within the grade but it captivated me- so good enough.

I have a Missouri 2 X 4 graded VF-30 by PCGS. It has a lot more wear than this one. It has more than half of the powder horn and bag worn off. The ear on the obverse is almost all gone. I really thought that mine would grade much lower. When you want a low grade you just can't get it. I would say this one would be 40 or 45 compared to mine.

I have got to get a digital camera and post the difference between these two. It's unreal.

I'd love to see how PCGS grades today one of these in VF30 vs 15 or so years ago.
  • Nice coin, Braddick! I've thought many times that I would love to put together a 50-pc set in VF/XF
with nice, even wear and color - maybe I should get started on that, as I know some pieces
would be tough to find and that project would take awhile!

Sticking with only PCGS graded Classic Commems will make it a hundred times more difficult. Those few collectors doing the PCGS registry AT THE LOWEST GRADES AVAILABLE have certainly got their work cut out for them. Take a look at the registry. It will be worth your time.

I picked up a MS blue and gold rim toned non 2X4 at the last Anahiem show for $300 from some old couple. They are dealers and had the coin with a TYPED card! It looked like it had been priced ten years ago...I think that was a rip. I am waiting for a Nikon 950 I sniped on ebay for $53 and I will try to post a pic in the near future. I need 18 more to finish my 7094. I still kick myself for not buying this one! Take care, SoCalBigMark
