New coin from this weekend's coin show (09-S VDB)

I went to the Northwest coin show in Minneapolis, MN this past Saturday. I bought only 2 coins, one which I'll post below. I have wanted one of these for the past 10 years, and finally pulled the trigger on this one. It finished off my Lincoln set, which I didn't think I would ever finish. Actually, I thought I would never own one of these. But I am real happy with my purchase. The picture is below.

Also, I bought a 1881-S Morgan in PCGS MS66 for a fellow forum member there. And was able to meet several other members there as well. I only went Saturday, but thought Saturday was quite busy until 5:00 pm, as it was tough to walk through all the people at times during the day. Another intersting tidbit was I helped out a dealer behind his tables for most of the day. It was interesting to see "the other side of the table" so to speak, from the eyes of a collector. I enjoyed it, and learned seomthing in the process.

Here is my pride and joy!!

congrats on acquiring your SVDB. That is exciting. I still have another 2 years or so before I bite the bullet on this coin. I will most likely shoot for one in the same range as you. It is the king of the lincolns...no doubt about that!

By complete did you mean also the 55DD, 72DD, 22 plain, 95DD?
Just to be nosey, how much was that 09S VDB? Sure looks great. I have 10 sets of Lincolns and none of my 09S VDB's even come close to that.

Wow! Most of the 09-S VDB's on the market are butt ugly, either lacking in lustre or full of carbonspots. Looks like you've got a nice eye appealing example there!

And, for exactly the reason that Robert states, I still don't have a '09svdb image

I agree, nice pickup!!! I've been looking for one for over a year now (nice but not jacked on the price....I don't need greysheet for a nice one, but I don't need raped on it either). I have the '55DDO, the '72DDO, the '95DDO and want this now....I want it, I want it, I want it image

I too, if not too crass, wonder how much it was.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Thanks for the comments so far. I do not have the '55DDO, the '72DDO, the '95DDO and the 22Plain, etc. Personally, I don't include the "error" dates in my collection. To each their own I guess. Maybe someday I will think about those. But to me, my set is finished! First set I have completed. So I am still riding high and have a big grin on my face. Probably will get that grin wiped off when I eventually have to tell my wife how much I paid for a "penny."

I looked at many 09-S VDB's at the Northwest coin show, and this was the nicest by far that I saw. Several in PCGS MS63 holders, and all of those had a lot of "green crud" on the coins. I actually had resigned myself to not getting one, as I wasn't going to spend that amount of money on one that I did not like the look of. I saw this one about an hour before the show ended. Couldn't talk the dealer down any. So I paid his asking price of $2400.
  • Beautiful coin to complete your set. Well done. The price you paid seems fair. It's the "creme de la creme" of Lincolns. I purchased my MS64 Red 2 years ago, so "I'm all in", as they say in poker. image
