Cowboy fans - Now he's all yours!!! HA! HA! HA!
Report: Owens, Cowboys agree to terms
DALLAS (Ticker) - Controversial standout wide receiver Terrell Owens has reached an agreement in principle with the Dallas Cowboys, according to a published report.
The Dallas Morning News, citing a pair of unidentified sources, reported Friday that Owens is expected to join the Cowboys with a formal announcement in the next few days.
Owens, 32, played just seven games with the Philadelphia Eagles last season before the club deactivated him for conduct detrimental to the team. In his second year with the team, Owens had publicly criticized numerous members of the organization, including quarterback Donovan McNabb.
Owens was not pleased with his contract and remained a constant source of news even in his inactivity. He and agent Drew Rosenhaus appeared more than once on national television to discuss the conflict with the Eagles.
Despite missing more than half the year, Owens managed 47 catches for 763 yards and six touchdowns.
Undeniably one of the finest talents in the game, Owens has caused controversy on numerous occassions in his 10-year career, the primary reason he will be joining his third team in four seasons.
Notable in his odd actions came against Dallas in 2002, when, after scoring a touchdown for the San Francisco 49ers, he sprinted to midfield and celebrated in the middle of the star at Texas Stadium.
He also has had many signature moments of a positive nature, especially in Super Bowl XXXIX when he returned from a broken leg that robbed him of the final two regular season games and two playoff contests to make nine catches for 122 yards.
A five-time Pro Bowl selection, Owens has 716 catches for 10,535 yards in 142 career games with the 49ers and Eagles.

<< <i>Yeah, and I can't wait to see Dawk get JO, no I mean TO, in his sights, and level him, just like Michael Irvin got it at the Vet. >>
YES!!!!!
Dawkins is a team player and accepted Owens when he was a teammate, but Dawkins was adament when the early rumors started circulating about Owens becoming an Eagle, that it would be a very bad idea. Dawkins called Owens a "bad man" - I'll try to find the story and post it here if it's still on the internet.
Commentary: Once-noble 49ers now NFL's riffraff
By Stephen A. Smith - The Philadelphia Inquirer
Tuesday, March 9, 2004
To the ignorant among us whose bias and sanctimonious attitude continue to cloud the definition of fairness: Did you need any more proof as to what the 49ers are all about? Is further evidence needed to surmise the petulance of the boys by the bay
Is Bill Walsh still a genius, above reproach? Is it finally sinking in that Terry Donahue, a winner nowhere, isn't about to become one in San Francisco, either?
Put it in writing. And use a Sharpie to do it.
Just when you thought some semblance of professionalism still existed in this world, the braintrust presiding over the 49ers showed immaturity, belligerence and the absence of decency wasn't monopolized by Terrell Owens or anyone else donning pads and helmets.
A little more than a week after capturing gold through the neglect of Owens' agent, David Joseph, whose clerical error allowed the Niners to retain Owens' rights, this once proud organization promptly went out and royally screwed the perennial all-pro receiver -- and themselves in the process.
Purportedly unable to get the 28th overall draft pick from the Eagles, the Niners settled on the Baltimore Ravens' 51st overall pick in exchange for Owens instead. They did this after talking with the Eagles, after permitting the Eagles to work out a deal with Owens on their own, and knowing Owens had every desire to catch passes from Donovan McNabb instead of some no-name down the road needing daily pep talks from Ray Lewis.
"I don't think what San Francisco did was against the rules," Eagles president Joe Banner said recently. "But I'm very disappointed that we were given permission to work something out and then they made this trade without giving us the chance to talk about anything else."
So much for honor among thieves!
The 49ers did this deal to screw over Owens. Let's cut through the nonsense.
They tired of his mouth, his antics, his tendency to shine a light on the team's ineptitude. So when the opportunity arrived to thwart another NFC team -- specifically, one that has visited the conference championship game three consecutive years and is vying for another shot at the Super Bowl -- the 49ers vividly illustrated what we've all recognized a long time ago: This is not the same classy organization Walsh, Joe Montana and Eddie DeBartolo once established as a true gold standard in the NFL.
The Niners are just as trifling as anyone else. Just as shady. And while in suits and ties, mingling with everyone from politicians to sponsors, they're no different than the egomaniacs few of us want in our living rooms, either.
Looks, indeed, are very deceiving.
"I wouldn't put it past them to try and screw me one bit," Owens said, knowing the 49ers had his rights. "That's why I said I'm not having it. I know they're not going to do what's in my best interest. I doubt they'll even do what's in their best interest. They're just determined to give it to me any chance they get. Like I said before, I'm not having it."
Pause for a second.
This is not about Owens, his antics, and what may or may not serve him right for his behavior. This is about the issues, the integrity of business, and why so many players have the right to whine and moan whenever they get the chance.
Owens, like any other player, is paid handsomely to play football, which he has done. The man has 8,572 yards on 592 catches in eight NFL seasons. He's a four-time all-pro receiver, recognized as one of the game's very best and coveted by the likes of McNabb, Brian Dawkins and even that new guy just handed $66 million by the Eagles, Jevon Kearse.
"That's a bad man," Dawkins said at Thursday night's 76ers-Kings game. "We all know this."
It's the parts we don't know that should concern everyone.
Regardless of how annoying Owens has been, how many passes he dropped, how many times he seemed hesitant to go across the middle of the field, the consensus is that nothing has stopped him from producing.
There were more questions about Jeff Garcia's talent than Owens, about Dennis Erickson's coaching ability, about Greg Knapp's abilities as an offensive coordinator, and certainly about the direction of the Niners franchise.
"The one thing I would never flake on is doing my job," Owens said.
The problem is, the Niners have been asleep at the wheel for years, using Owens as a target to hide their deficiencies.
If Owens is really a model of bad taste, so much for wondering from whom he learned

Hmm oh yeah, super bowl appearance. I'm not saying the Cowboys are super bowl bound, but to say they won't make the playoffs makes you Eagle fans sound childish and jealous.
Spin it all you want - you soiled yourselves when TO came on board, with super bowl dreams and he delivered it. If McNabb were a man and had stood up to TO when he started yapping (instead of hiding behind Andy Reid) then TO would still be an Eagle.
What will Eagle fans' excuses be when they are winning the division and the Eagles are floundering in the cellar, again? The Eagles have signed no one of note in the offseason, furthering their reputation as a team that doesn't play it's players, and free agents don't want to go somewhere where they won't get compensated.
Have fun in the cellar again, eagirls!
<< <i>Yea....whatever. You saying the Cowboys will not make the playoffs next season really makes yourself sound totally foolish. I agree TO is an ignorant person but his talent actually outweighs his bad attitude, he is the most talented wide receiver in the NFL and adds a phenominal offensive weapon to any offense. >>
I would have agreed with you if not being a huge Eagles fan and fully watching day to day how this guy is a disruptive cancer to a team, despite his talent. You'll realize I'm right after the Cowboys fail to make the playoffs.
A side note: Owens has had a nagging groin problem for a number of years. I'm predicting that he will overtrain getting ready for the season and will sustain a number of injuries, causing missed time and ineffectiveness.
Let's see if I remember this right? Uh...lemme think...oh yea...Owens was injured and didn't play in the two playoff games the Eagles won to get into the Super Bowl. Now lemme think some more...oh yea...Owens was in the Super Bowl and the Eagles lost. Based on those facts he sure helped didn't he?

Before TO, number of super bowl appearances: ZERO
With TO, number of super bowl appearances: ONE
Without TO, the Eagles get their asses handed to them by a superior New England team. Spin it all you want, but TO was the reason the Eagles were in that game. Without him, it's one of the biggest blowouts in the history of the super bowl.
And how did the Eagles do the season after without TO? Hmm cellar dwelling?
<< <i>Yeah, and I can't wait to see Dawk get JO, no I mean TO, in his sights, and level him, just like Michael Irvin got it at the Vet. >>
The street (turf) you call a field got Michael not Philly. At least Michael left with 3 Superbowl Rings.
<< <i>First of all this is still a rumor. I hope it is not true. But when T.O. has something to prove he usual does one hell of a job.

Yes, and the Eagle 'fans' cheered Irvin getting hurt - really classy on their part.

I remember that - Irvin laid motionless on the ground for some time, and many fans in Philly cheered as loud as they could. I am no Michael Irvin fan (he's as big a jerk as TO), but that always struck me as one of the most classless moves in recent NFL history.

Wrong, smelly pirate hooker lover. The Eagles have been to the Super Bowl twice, and don't give us the modern/vintage era crap unless you also want to negate the Lombardi period. It was an SB and 1980.
Bring on T. Blow. I'll be there to greet him when he gets off the bus along with many other spurned Eagles fans. He fits right in with the Cowboys and now Eagles fans can lump all of their venom into one effort. Philly will be boiling this year when the Pokies come to town.

Sorry, I meant super bowl appearances in the current regime with Donovan and co. They had gotten close and lost, and the year TO gets there they go to the big game. Coincidence? I think not.
Philly will have their super bowl with Dallas? No wonder...they won't be sniffing the playoffs for a while.
The Eagles were in the exact same position for three years prior to TO. TO had absolutely nothing to do with the Eagles finally reaching the Super Bowl - he didn't play against the Vikings or the Falcons in the playoffs. Did he help them get home field advantage? Of course he did - but they were there pre-TO.
TO is a world beater. The best WR in the game. Period. But don't tell me it was TO that got them there.
got it? idiot

Yea real classy! I hate the Eagles as much as you hate the Cowboys. But when Roy took T.O. out I wasn't cheering. I would rather have both teams at full strenght so that they is no excuse. I am looking forward to the Two teams meetings again.
That was wrong, I'll admit it. Batteries should have been thrown instead.
Ya, and if the fans of Philly have the same type accuracy as their quarterback they would've missed Irvin anyway

But for a number of reasons I think McNabb is going to have his best NFL season.

Look, the Eagles were pathetic this year, even before McNabb went down. Sure, take the easy road and say that the TO distraction was the cause. Really? Was it that much of a distraction? I am sure that's what you want to believe, but what makes you think that the Eagles are going to be a contender this year without TO, and with no key free agent signings?
It's great you want to be optimistic about this year, but face facts: your team has a QB who folds under big game pressure, no speed receivers, an ownership who fails to reward players not named McNabb with big contracts, and has no juice.
Now you want to slam a Dallas team that was on the cusp of a playoff berth last year, who will instantly be light years better with the TO signing? What will you whining babies do when the Eagles suck and the Cowboys make the playoffs, and you have no TO 'distraction' to blame for your team STINKING?
I like how the Eagle 'fans' show their heads after being buried in the cellar all year...how's it going to feel when you're down there again all year this year? After all the pompous attitudes as if you were owed the NFC east? Washington is going to be better, the Giants won the division, and the Cowboys are going to be better? What have the eagles done? Jabar Gaffney? Darnerien McCants? These are the players meant to replace TO?
Give me a break!
Hollie Thomas and 3rd-5th round pick for Javon Walker. Book it.

So what are they waiting for?
You really think the Eagles wanna be tough guys are going to deal with another prima donna WR? He's already saying that he doesn't want to play in green bay anymore, what's to say he won't be signing the same tune next year when Philly stinks (again)?
And you're saying that Walker is the difference maker?
everything is negative with you and everything is an argument. I personally think your sports accumen is subpar at best ... you don't know squat for stats, and cannot think outside the box. Stalin and Gemmy are fun, you are a pain and a bore on these boards.
But, I will play.
TO disrupted the Eagles - he was to blame for that. Granted things could have been handled differently but they weren't. He's gone, and barring injuries (the MAIN reason for the Eagles dismal season), there is no reason for anyone who has half a brain to not think the Eagles will be the team to beat in the NFC East next season.
Can dallas run the ball? What happens when Bledsoe overthrow TO a few times? Or when dallas loses a game, or two in a row? Why wasn't Parcells at the press conference? He was on record saying he didn't want TO ... we'll see what happens when Parcells gets fed up.
TO is a cowboy - big deal. If the Eagles sign Walker and he wants to leave after one season, well, Eagles fans will cross that bridge when we need to.
TO wasn't .... in San Fran or Philadelphia.
Parcells dosen't show up to any f.a signing press conferences
Jerry Jones said Parcells was behind the signing of T.O, whether that is true or not we'll probablly never know, or at least we won't know for a while

<< <i>axtell, I have come to the conclusion that you really cannot see anything positive with anything. >>
Really? Who was the joker saying 'the cowboys will NOT make the playoffs'? Who was negative with that again? Just checking.

Of course you will...since you seem to think you are my superior in sports knowledge (with emphasis on the word 'think'), why else would you 'play' unless you thought you had the upper hand? Not everything is an argument or negative, remember, I was saying why TO in Dallas would be a good thing, you eagle fans can't get over yourselves enough to see there are far superior teams in the East now beside your team.

He's handles prima donnas before - LT, Meshawn, and made them perform and stay out of trouble. He'll have TO eating out of his hand.
<< <i>TO is a cowboy - big deal. If the Eagles sign Walker and he wants to leave after one season, well, Eagles fans will cross that bridge when we need to. >>
Big deal? it's a huge deal, especially since he'll be chewing up that eagle secondary that is (a) overrated, (b) old, and (c) going to get torched by Big D twice this year.
Axtell - this statement of yours clearly shows your basic lack of understanding about the game of football. Perhaps you are knowledgeable in sports such as ping pong or badminton, but you don't comprehend the fundamentals of football in making a comment like this.
First off, it is more tiring to play defense versus playing offense - that is a fact. Secondly, a strategy that even good coaches from Pop Warner football teams use is keeping the offense on the field as long as possible, not only for the obvious reason of trying to score points but to tire out the defense, so that later in the game the offense can be more effective with the game possibly on the line.
Do you think it's an accident that good teams score and win games in the 4th quarter? Well for your information that is a detailed strategy that all good football coaches use. Now that you've learned something today, that is why the Eagle's defense faltered in some games last season because their offense sucked and the defense was constantly on the field. What do you think that football players are marathon runners? The Eagles have one of the best defenses in the league, but in some games they simply got tired for the reasons stated. With McNabb back, and others back and a more effective offense, the Eagle's defense will be superb again next season.
Happy to help you learn something today about sports Axtell...maybe in a few decades of reading and posting here you'll be on a par with the other good posters here as far as sports knowledge.
Quotes from Steven A. Smith :
His act is more suited for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus than it is for any locker room in the National Football League. We know this.
So do the Eagles.
And so does Terrell Owens, regardless of how often he'll deny it. But the one undeniable reality is that Owens can play some football, better than anybody he has left behind in this city, which should leave Philadelphians exasperated, if not depressed, by his exodus to the Eagles' most hated rival.
In case you missed it, Terrell Owens is now a member of the Cowboys, a team that instantly becomes a contender with him. There are those who want to play psychiatrist, swearing that Dallas will rue the day it took this malcontent into its already fractious environment. That thought is understandable for a city blessed with a contender that has the heart to stave off an opponent with an infusion of talent.
A show of hands from anyone who believes the Eagles are that team?
Keep dreaming! You know better.
Perhaps someday the Eagles will find a way to explain how they allowed Owens to land in their own division, scheduled to go against them twice a season, perfectly positioned to prevent them from advancing to the postseason. Perhaps someday they'll favor us with an explanation.
Out of respect for their four consecutive trips to the NFC championship game, one trip to the Super Bowl, and years of quality play and decision-making, the temptation was to give the Eagles the benefit of the doubt by saying nothing until they did something and told us about it.
Time's up!
It's March. T.O. is gone. And all we see is Reggie Brown, Greg Lewis and a franchise player in quarterback Donovan McNabb, still injured by the way.
Physical? Psychological? It remains to be seen.
So it's time to see some action. Or get some kind of explanation.
What have the Eagles been doing all these months anyway? Did Joe Banner and Andy Reid go on vacation and forget to tell everybody? Or did they just forget that their 6-10 finish last season put them in last place in the NFC East, mired in mediocrity for the first time since Reid took over this franchise, forced to rebuild their identity now, not just their roster?
No one can legitimately say they have confidence in this team right now. Not while the Washington Redskins added receivers Brandon Lloyd (from the 49ers) and Antwaan Randle El (Steelers) to their roster before T.O. arrived in Dallas yesterday. And now that T.O. is a Cowboy - essentially for a one-year, $10 million deal, bloated with future incentives - the Cowboys, Redskins and divisional champion New York Giants are all better.
Owens' temperamental behavior aside, the Eagles are actually worse.
"I'm a star among stars now," Owens said, gleaming while sitting beside Cowboys owner Jerry Jones during a news conference. "I'm going to put [problems of the past] behind me. They can only make a man stronger, wiser. For me, that's what it's done. I'll be a better teammate, a better person, a better man in life. I'm looking forward to this opportunity."
No one in Philadelphia should be happy about this.
We can't reasonably expect Roderick Hood or Sheldon Brown to stop Owens, any more than we can expect Reggie Brown, Lewis or Darnerien McCants to replace him. And there were too many occasions last season when the Eagles' defense - dare we say it? - was less than reliable.
It's bad enough this is not the same team it was two years ago, but when you consider the noticeable regression coupled with improvements everywhere within the division - plus the fact that Owens, with this new contract, has the potential to earn $5 million more in Dallas over the next three years than he would have made in Philadelphia through 2008 - the Eagles lost out in a variety of ways.
They lost out in talent, certainly in execution, and now a legitimate argument can be made that their image took a hit.
Jones may be desperate, having won just one playoff game since 1995, but, unlike the Eagles, he wasn't responsible for T.O.'s dirty laundry being aired in public. That's never been his style. He's the guy willing to take a chance and surrender some dollars.
The word may be out on T.O., but it's also out on the Eagles. While proudly and effectively frugal, they also have shown a tendency to be spiteful.
Once upon a time, we all thought it would catch up with them via free agency, attrition or just plain bad luck.
With T.O. in Dallas, a more direct approach has been adopted.
"Seven teams aggressively pursued T.O.," Owens' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, quipped.
Yet Owens is in Dallas now.
I wonder why!
I'm sure a Superbowl would change many minds there but not all of them.
By the way, Dallas is definately a better team with him instead of Keyshawn, hands down. I think Washington is their only competition in that division. I'm still not sold on the Giants team. Eli is no Peyton and he doesn't have near the weapons, but time will tell.
Smith knows basketball but he doesn't know sh*t about football. Yes, the Eagles were 6 - 10 last season but they also had perhaps the worst number of key injuries of any football team I have ever seen.
This actually is good that Smith, you and hopefully the rest of the NFC is underestimating the Eagles - it'll make it easier to beat teams this season. You just keep on underestimating us as you are watching the Eagles play in the upcoming Super Bowl.
BTW, i think you need to reed that part about Dawkins more carefully. The paragraph before the quote is stating how great of a player Owens is, when Dawkins called him a bad man he mean't it the way Ali mean't it when he said " Im a bad man "
Owens, like any other player, is paid handsomely to play football, which he has done.

<< <i>By the way, Dallas is definately a better team with him instead of Keyshawn, hands down. I think Washington is their only competition in that division. I'm still not sold on the Giants team. Eli is no Peyton and he doesn't have near the weapons, but time will tell. >>
I agree with you. Dallas and Washington will fight it out for first place, the Giants behind them (out of the playoffs) and the Eagles behind them. Steven A Smith is a blowhard, but he sure assessed the Eagles pretty well in that article.
<< <i> Thats funny but this Philly guy has a whole different take than most of the beagle barkers on this board >>
Smith is Owen's butt buddy and contributed to the problem last season with his column.
Owens can play yes, but he has to play. He won't make it through the season and most likely will be injured playing against the Eagles. If he is not injured he'll run his mouth about Bledsoe not throwing to him or missing the mark.
Parcells will coach his last season and fade out in a lost cause.
Training camp is three months away, with plenty of time to make more player moves. The Eagles will add to a solid team. Maybe not the superstars that everyone looks for but more of a Patriots style make up. This is a team, not a group of players.
Don't forget that the problem was mainly Owens and his failure to just shut up and play. He can only sit and smile like a cat for too long. He'll play the rambling magpie bit soon and once again blow it for another team.
Thankfully this time it will be the Cowboys. They deserve every bit of pain and suffering that can be mustered.
Smith was basically "reporting" in the first article which he did just fine. Smith was "interpreting" in the second article and again...he doesn't know sh*t about football. He should just report it, not try to interpret it.
<<< BTW, i think you need to reed that part about Dawkins more carefully. The paragraph before the quote is stating how great of a player Owens is, when Dawkins called him a bad man he mean't it the way Ali mean't it when he said " Im a bad man " >>>
No - you need to reread it. You are totally incorrect. Dawkins meant the word "bad" exactly as the Webster's Dictionary means it to be - Dawkins spoke negatively about Owens in some other articles also, well before the Eagles signed him. And Dawkins turned out to be 100% right. Actually just calling Owens "bad" is downplaying what a irritating, cancerous punk he really is - as a Cowboys fan you'll soon find out - HA! HA!
<< <i>axtell - I am your superior when it comes to this stuff. >>
haha thanks for the laugh.
I find you eagle fans funny...you're so blind in your fandom that you can't see the team for what it really is: a cheapskate owner with a puppet coach (Reid) who has no backbone of his own. They have a token high priced overrated QB (McNabb) who's always let the team down in big games. Anytime a player is due for a payday, they are cut or traded, leaving no veteran, long standing players on the team.
And you wonder how one player was able to divide up the locker room? No leadership from the head coach, no leadership from the QB, and no leadership from upstairs. Sorry to say it boys, but your ship has no captain and no rudder, and is destined to sink.

Axtell - You talk about "imaginary" in your sigline. You truly have a vivid imagination at times. Seriously - I think you should become a fiction novel writer. You could be right up there with Stephen King. To make comments such as this about a team that only two seasons ago came within 4 points of winning the Super Bowl and then was decimated by injuries last season, truly shows that you have a remarkable grasp of how to write fiction. Really...this is a compliment...your ability to see a real situation and turn it into a total fantasy is quite astonishing. One day your book or series of books could windup being on the New York Times best seller list and we can all say, "Wow, we knew that famous talented fictional writer Axtell when he was a member of our little CU Sports Forum." Maybe you'll be nice enough to send us each an autographed copy if we buy the book and pay for postage and handling?

...and your Smelly Pirate Hookers from Tampa have done what in the off season? Griese is leaving, they lost a chance at Ramsey, and now are hoping that Aaron Brooks will suffice. Sims certainly is not the answer.
I'll take an overrated McNabb over the spoiled pseudo wonder boy any day. Get a QB and then we'll talk. Until then stay on the porch.
TAMPA - After reaching a stalemate, Brian Griese and the Bucs will explore other options.
Griese will travel this weekend for visits in Cincinnati and Chicago. His agent is also talking with three other teams.
While Griese entertains other offers, the Bucs met with former New Orleans quarterback Aaron Brooks on Thursday and will take a look at Washington's Patrick Ramsey. The Redskins are trying to trade the fifth-year quarterback, reportedly asking for a fourth-round pick, and have talked to the New York Jets.
Having received permission from the Redskins, Ramsey is expected to visit One Buc Place soon. He started in 23 games his first three seasons in Washington, but lost his starting job to Mark Brunell last year. He played in only four games last season, starting one.
At the end of last season, Coach Jon Gruden heaped praise on Griese and said he hoped to take all four quarterbacks who were on the Bucs roster last year - Griese, Chris Simms, Luke McCown and Tim Rattay - to training camp. Gruden has repeatedly pointed to Griese's high completion percentage and record as a starter last year (5-1) before a knee injury ended his season.
