Got this one today for my personal collection. I really like it! Guess the grade (and critique the images) if you want. It is NGC certified.

Fantastic photo, and very nice toning on the reverse. As far as grade, it looks like an au58 with a weak strike....

Forgot to ask, is it a Battle Creek?

It is not a Battle Creek dollar. In a way I am kind of glad it isnt though. If it had been a Battle Creek coin I would have had to pay hundreds more for it.

63/64 I see nothing on the cotton bolls to suggest a 58.

    NGC64 or PCGS63 .. Too bad there wasn't a 6 under that 7 image
  • I agree with '777' at 64 because it was NCG but a grade lower for PCGS! Regardless, my Morgan collection is jealous!!

Weak strike, but few hits, MS64.

  • I would have to go on the 64/65 for the tpg's albeit beautiful colouring though!!!!!

    Thanks for sharing!!!!

  • 64, 64* if the toning were obverse. Great shots - how did you light it to get such excellent reproduction of the color?

  • Beautiful coin!

Looks like an average strike, not terrible -- I've seen worse on 87-Ps.

Look like a liner -- I'll guess 64*, but I have seen coins like that in 65 NGC holders.
  • GREAT toning on the Reverse. I also like the die crack around the stars. Nice pick.imageimage MS63?

Pics are great, you captured the color and the luster very well. I'd call it a 63 because of the weak strike but it might have gotten the bump to 64 for the color.

  • nice colors on the reverse and tons of die cracks on the obverse... any other vam like characteristics?

Thanks for all the compliments guys. I'll post the grade tonight so I give other people a bit more of chance to guess.

<< <i>Great shots - how did you light it to get such excellent reproduction of the color? >>

I used 3 lights on this coin. Two of them were flood lights (which are more powerful that regular incandescant bulbs- thus bringing out more color) and one was a regular incandescant bulb. The two flood lights bring out most of the color but I have the 3rd light in a small clip on lamp that I hold wherever it needs to be to get the last little sliver of darkness. As you can see I could probably use a 4th light, but I am out of arms and plugins image

I didnt even look at their feedback image

I am still learning on VAMs but it the "RIB" in Pluribus is doubled. Also that die crack on the obverse is much more complex than it shows in the picture. The one on the right side of the coin (viewer's right) starts at the date. On the 4th star from the date it splits to the rim. The crack also continues all the way through the hat and up to the leaves (wheat stocks?) under the "I" in Pluribus.

I'll guess 64 shot at 65. Love those die cracks, and the color. Your pic captures both the luster and the color, well done.

I like the contrasting obverse and reverse surface. Very nice pictures.

At NGC? MS64, perhaps with a star. Very common date that is usually well struck. The strike on that piece is lacking. The original toning makes you forget about such things though. There are a lot of '86-P abd '87-P dollars with great toning out there.

Actually I think this is one of those examples where the toning pattern looks nicer on the reverse than it would on the obverse and at least gives the impression that the eagle is rising from something. There is a 50:50 chance that the obverse will be toned but in this case I believe that it got on the right side.

    Here is another example.
