Thanks Michael Printz at Larry Whitlow

Michael and I talked on the phone the other day about a coin in inventory. Michael set me straight on a few thingsimage and we got a deal on the coin worked out. This is my first coin from Michael and Larry Whitlow. Needless to say, I'm very happy with this one. Michael is a straight shooter as I am. Easy to get things done this way. Thanks again Michaelimage

  • Very nice commem. It appears they have very realistic pics of their coins every time I visit their site. Been tempted to give them a ring a couple of times about a few coins, but haven't done it yet.

For myself, I cannot justify the huge jump in price from MS65 to MS66. My Long Island set piece is a tab toned MS65.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

Mozin I agree with you on this. The only time I step up to the pricer coin is for the ones that I feel are truly special.

Mike's one of the good, make that great, ones.

True story from Baltimore on Friday.... Mike and another major, well known dealer (maybe the most respected dealer of them all, known for having what many say is the best eye in the business and of the same high integrity as Mike) have been looking for a key coin for me for over a year and a half. We're talking a 5 figure coin (Lafayette) as the final upgrade to my classic commem type set (making everything PCGS MS65-MS68). As of Wednesday night, it was destrined to be another week/month of nothing acceptable coming on the market. I was resigned to having a nice PQ PCGS MS64 for another few months while waiting for the 65 of my dreams to become available.

Friday, I am speaking with the other dealer (who had not found anything either) after first meeting with Mike (and who, I know is also a friend as well as a competitor). Both said they had found nothing, without anything looking likely on the immediate horizon. Mike approached us. even more personally energized than he usually is. He asked, very politely, if he could join us. He said he just had the coin, virtually, drop in his lap, about 30 minutes after I left him. Further, he said that he knows the other dealer is so well, and widely, respected, by everyone, including by him. If I am interested, he will show me the coin and is more than happy to let the other fellow look at it and converse privately with me. If either the other dealer or I have doubts, no hard feelings whatsoever and the hunt would go on. Since the three of us have been involved in this tango for so long, we actually have a laugh or two about everything at this point.

We did just that. After 5 minutes of examining the coin, the other fellow tells me that he could not have done better himself and that the coin is just about everything I've been looking for (toned, original, fresh, not dipped etc.). He said that Mike's price was very fair and congratulates me for finally getting it. It was, in many ways, a friendly competition between these two fine gentlemen for who would first find me the coin.

Mike offered me a fair (and profitable) price for my trade-in and offered to wait and see if the other gentlemen would pay more (again with no hard feelings). I went to the other fellow and told him what had transpired. He took out his checkbook and paid me a little more than Mike's offer as he also liked my coin.

Both fellows felt it was a win-win situation for all three of us and I, completely, agreed.

There are some (fewer than I wish, sadly) decent folks in the coin business. Mike is one of them. When you have a couple of them, as I am fortunate enough to have, who you can trust without doubt, it makes collecting a heck of a lot more enjoyable.

Many of my commems came from Mike....he values honesty and a long relationship with a collector over the "quick sale". Although I have taken a break from buying insanely priced color commem in this market, I know I can count on him to offer nice coins at sensible prices when he can find them.
