opinions on this gold coin

Was wondering what the opinions of some of the folks here on this gold coin.

EBAY LINK

I was wondering why there are no bids. I just don't understand how to look up the values of coins accurately.

I was wondering if this was a possible candidate for a crackout, and resubmit. It looks to be an older holder from ngc, I thought maybe it would grade higher now, and be worth more?

Just curious, I am way to green at this to but it, but was wondering about my thoughts.

i consider it a very fair deal.

the gold alone is worth almost 300.

you are paying ~65 for a coin.

it appears to be nice.. but from the pics cannot tell if
    au58 or ms63.

i say pull the trigger and it will make a fine coin to learn from.

if you resell.. you will def not lose much at all on ebay.

i do not know if a common or rare date.. nor its true value.
i just looking at it from outsider view. i like half eagles.

    good luck

Common date. At $350 you're paying retail or close to it. Nothing special.

yes full retail.. but there is little downside.

if coin collecting dies over night..
you still have a big old piece of gold.

it is a great coin to learn and study why or why not it deserves
    the grade ms61.

Why is the obverse picture not blown up like the reverse?

Usually the obverse of these coins is not as nice as the reverse. Could they be hiding something?

I can almost gurantee you that this coin is not truly Mint State. It's probably a decent to nice AU. That's what you get for an MS-61.

Let me ask this question. Is there a way to see when it was appraised. I mean is there a way to type in the registration number and see when it was done, and slabbed?

I don't have any gold coins yet, and would like one. I just don't know where to start.

I am going to pass. I emailed the seller hours ago looking for a better pic, and a few other pieces of info, and they never got back to me.

The search for my first gold coin goes on.

    Thanks for the input.

  • I recently sold two Liberty Eagles in NGC 61, just like that, on eBay. One was AU in my opinion, but several here on the forums thought it might really be MS. That coin went for about $300. I started them at 1 cent so, naturally, there were bids right off. The other I felt was really MS and definitely 61+ ended about $340.

If it were to upgrade from 61 to 62 it wouldn't add much value. Once you factor in the postage and grading fees it wouldn't add any value.

Now a jump from 62 to 63 would add some value.

Personally I would buy AU or 63, I don't really like the grades in between, unless I can get them for close to melt value. A nice MS 63 will have noticeable hits but will have good luster all over both sides.

Sadly that definition for MS-63 has started to be the descriptions one could use for MS-64 graded $10 Liberty coins. I have a 1903 $10 gold in stock that is in an NGC MS-63. It's very PQ, and when I told another dealer that it would be in an MS-64 holder if it had been a more common date, he agreed with me wholeheartedly.

As for MS-62 graded coins, if you are VERY selective, you can find some great values. For example I have $2.50 liberty in an NGC MS-62 holder that is just as nice as many MS-63 graded coins. The difference is in the present market you buy the piece for about half the price!

This is the exception however. Many MS-62 coins have minor problems like a touch of wear or less than great eye appeal.

I agree! From that same grouping of coins I had a $2.50 Lib in NGC 62. I cracked it and it is now in a PCGS 63 holder at about twice the price! It was much nicer than your average 62.

Hole in One...on getting your first gold coin. Go to heritagecoin.com, or davidlawrence.com and look around some, get a feel for the prices and things that are available. there are other sites that have excellent coins, these are just the first two that I cruise during the day. A nice ngc or pcgs ms 61 $10 lib is an excellent first choice for the money. Here's a leg up Text

    Enjoy
