Brackets

The four #1 seeds are no surprise, but I expected Duke to get the #1 overall; although the ACC tourney may not have been over before they made their picks – no complaints

Gonzaga as a #3 seed is a shocker, I thought they were a lock as a #2 seed; another pleasant surprise.

Any thoughts on first round upsets? The 5/12 matchups are intriguing – I think A&M defeats Cuse.

  • Duke is overall #1 seed

Nova plays the winner of the 64/65 seed game in their backyard. I thought that marked the #1 seed.

iamthegreatcornholio - It is based on who the teams would play if all four #1 seeds reach the final four. Duke is 1, UConn 2, Villanova 3 and Memphis 4. So in a perfect seeding world Duke will play Memphis in the National Semi-Final. Not certain why the 64/65 game winner plays Villanova other than that match might already be determined by conference winners as opposed to being the weakest teams.
  • I stand corrected - thanks for the explanation aro.

I just think it is not going to be one of the usual suspects that wins this year

dont be shocked if like a 3-7 seed wins the hole thing. i think there are like 20 teams capable of making a run.

Okay, here's a sleeper - Boston College. They gave Duke all they could handle today, and I like their road to the Final Four.

I think UCLA could do it.

I don't like Duke or UNC as it was a down year in the ACC. For the same reason I think BC won't last long.

I think the Big East and the Big 10 will all fare very well.

BC is tough, but they play a very experienced Pacific team playing close to home. BC Nova would be a great matchup.

I don't understand how BC is a 4 seed. Going into the ACC tourney, they're ranked #11; they beat #10 ranked UNC Saturday. Apparently that game was meaningless since UNC is a 3 seed, and UNC gets to play within 2000 miles of their school. - smells like some love for the defending school.

How the hell does a flat, #19 ranked Tennessee team from a weak conference get a 2 seed?!

Air Force does not deserve to be in the tournament.

iamthegreatcornholio - I agree about BC. I thought they were going to get a #2 seed or a #3 at worst. Very weird selections this year. I am concerned about BC heading west because otherwise I think they have an excellent shot at being a serious factor in this years tournament.
  • BC/PAC was great - I missed my class because of that game - clutch FT's to end the first OT.

Wichita State could be a cinderella if they keep playing like they did today.
  • Montana is the first 12 seed to strike - not really suprising since Nevada is a 1 man team.
  • Florida wins by 26.

Anyone see that Tennesse game? WOW, they sucked. Reminds me of the first Duke tourney game last year, except worse.

Looking for Jonny Gomes cards, especially Triple Threads and printing plates. Will consider all cards, though. Got something? Contact me at c_u_l_1@yahoo.com
  • Tennessee is the one of the worst #2 seeds, Winthrop is a great #15 seed. It wouldn't be a shock to see the shockers upset the vols Saturday.

Wisconsin Milwaukee is experienced - I think they can hang with the Gators.

GW has quit playing basketball. I wonder if Duke will roll UNC-WIL?
  • I forgot about my G-dub comment - they were down 15 when I made it, were down as many as 18 in the 2nd half before going on a 19-0 run and winning in OT - incredible.

Albany led UConn 70-58 in the 2nd half, the better team showed up in the last 10 minutes, but you have to love the madness this year - no team is "unstoppable".

As much as I am an Illinois fan, I thought a 4 seed was alittle too tough... but after loosing to Penn State at home... loosing to Michigan at Michigan and then loosing to Michigan State in the Big Ten Tourney doesn't make the compelling argument required to get a higher seed. Then MSU, Iowa and Wisconsin leave in the first round. I thought AZ would be tough but as for Iowa and MSU?image

I was very happy with N.C. States win over Cal. Shocked that they outrebounded them - although with Harden playing only 8 minutes because of foul trouble it was possible.

I was very surprised at how bad UConn looked. Makes for interesting games on the weekend.
  • How about the "momentum" theory? (I'm looking at seeds 3 or worse since no #1 has lost and I believe only 1 #2)

Cuse wins the Big East - falls flat on their faces

Iowa wins the Big Ten - never trails until the last 0.5 seconds of the game

Kansas wins the Big XII - looking nothing like the team that beat Texas

  • The UNC game isn't on in my area so I can't comment on consistancy, but UNC has 2 team fouls compared to Murray State's 10 image
  • wow, murray state lost their leading score and unc could barely win

How about Kansas? I had them as a Final Four team, and they lose to one of the weakest teams in the entire tourney, Bradley.

Kansas lost in the first round last year as a high ranked team, too.

I had Kansas winning that game, but I had Pitt moving to the elite 8 from that branch.
  • I had Kansas beating Pitt for the sweet 16, but Memphis moving on to the elite 8...

Bradley won because they shot lights-out 11-21 from 3pt land including a 45fter to end the 1st half. As much as I'd like to badmouth Kansas, there's really no defense for a redhot shooting team - reminds me of West Virginia in last year's tourney.
  • ctsoxfanctsoxfan Posts: 6,246 ✭✭
I knew they lost last year as a high seed, and also that this year they are a young team (3 freshmen starters), but still thought they would be too quick for many teams in their region. Oh well, that's what makes the tournament so great every year - you never know what to expect.

I would have loved to see UConn go down in flames yesterday - they are going to have a tough game against Kentucky Sunday.

Also, does CBS need to show 500 ads per game? I miss the days when ESPN did the tourney, seemed like much better coverage back then. Now, every time there is a dead ball foul, we get what seems like 5 minutes of ads. What are the players doing at the arena, just standing around waiting for the TV guys to tell them - go ahead?

Last night Texas is in a tight game, UNC is going back and forth with Murray State, and Kansas is losing in the second half - and I can only watch the parade of ads CBS must show. Can't even find the actual games on another channel.
    image
  • Florida wins by 26 in round 1 and 22 in round 2.

    We are hot, hot, hot!

We've got two good big men and two 3-point shooters.

But we start 4 sophomores. Their lack of experience kinda makes me worry.

  • Several times cbs has switched games after a commerical break only to see another commerical break immediately on the other game.

I think the shockers will advance even farther in the tourney.

Your Gators looked good. I have them in the elite 8.

<< <i> I would have loved to see UConn go down in flames yesterday - they are going to have a tough game against Kentucky Sunday. >>

I hope you're right, but I would be surprised if UConn doesn't win by double digits. Near upsets are a double-edged sword - on one hand, UConn should be embarrassed, but on the other hand, it will cause them to come out swinging in their next game.

  • aro13aro13 Posts: 1,961 ✭✭✭
I have the Gators as National Champions so I hope they stay hot.

In Canada Sportsnet covers the tourny and they cover the best game at the moment. Last night their feature game was supposed to be NC State vs Cal so I was all set to watch the backdoor cuts and boom stinkin UConn falls behind Albany so they stick with that game as it "could have been the biggest upset in history". I ended up getting the last minute and six of the NC State game.

Interestingly the team everyone thought should never have been a two seed Tennesse is out and the other teams that were picked by many to go down early Syracuse and Iowa did just that.
  • I had good $ on UDub over Illinois - great game, but I had to sweat it out for most of that 2nd half.

The Hoosiers are off to a slow start, but hopefully the Zags go down tonight.

Call me crazy, but I have NCST over Texas tomorrow.

It's not crazy, actually. Could be a good pick - Texas didn't exactly dominate in the first round.

<< <i>If I have to listen to that stupid ass Applebees commercial with the Gilligan's Island theme once more..... >>

Exactly - when I see stupid ads like that over and over, it just makes me less likely to patronize the sponsor.

iamthegreatcornholio - Hey, how come your not whining about the officials in the Illinois-Washington game image

Washington shot 39 free throws to Illinois 11. The refs handed them the game on a silver platter. Of course, I should be talking - I have the Zags who went to the line 41 times to Indiana's 6. At least the Blue Devils only doubled GW at the free throw line 37-19.

I don't know why the Big 10 is getting hammered like this. I remember last year, when most of the iffy calls went MSU's way in the MSU/Duke game.
  • Well I had UNC going down to MSU in the 2nd round... at least everyone else's brackets are messed up too.

How about this - WSU vs. GMU and we guaranteed a cinderella in the elite 8
  • ctsoxfanctsoxfan Posts: 6,246 ✭✭
I think, by all accounts, George Mason was one of the last teams (in terms of selection) to make the final cut. I know I never figured they would even be competitive in a single game - March Madness at its finest!

  • I know this is going to come back to haunt me but my HOYAS are up 13 at the half against #2 seed Ohio St

Wow - the Big Ten is toast! Can you say - overrated conference?

  • Boy was I wrong about NCST - they gotten taken out behind the woodshed in the 2nd half.

I think we're in for some real treats in the next round. Nova/BC should be great.
  • I'm pulling for UDub - let's ruin some brackets image
  • ctsoxfanctsoxfan Posts: 6,246 ✭✭
Lets go Washington - I agree with you!

  • UConn is allowed over 10 seconds to advance the ball past half court image
  • UNREAL - WHY DON'T YOU FOUL THEM SO THEY CAN'T GET A 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Goaltending on Uconn - but no call
  • ctsoxfanctsoxfan Posts: 6,246 ✭✭
Boy, the officials sure wanted UConn to win that one - what a disgrace.

I was yelling at my TV for them to foul Anderson. It was the obvious smart thing to do - would have won the game for Washington despite the refs pulling for UConn all game.

  • The Mighty Gators win again.

    We are hot, hot, hot.

I think we match up better against Villanova than we did against Georgetown. We've got two legit big men, and two three-point shooters, plus we have Corey Brewer, and he is an x-factor who can play inside or outside.

I was nervous about the Georgetown game, but I really like our chances against Villanova.

Will a NCAA championship make you feel any better about giving Urban a gazillion dollars to finish third in the SEC East?
