Mint State can dip well but be cautious as the toming can eat into the coin and leave some ugly marks if dipped. Over dipping causes that washed out look you don't want. Better to leave the coin alone.

Look at it like this: If it doesn't make PL or DMPL , do you think dipping it will make it so ? I highly doubt exposure to acetone or anything else is going to enhance a PL coin. On the contrary, it could ruin it. So submit the coin first. If it fails, then make an attempt using prescribed methods and see if it passes that test then re-submit.
Humble, though it is, it's my opinion.

If its almost black they won't slab it.

try NOCl+CL2+HOH, AquaRegia.
Also make sure you grab it out of there with your bare hands.

Although I will not speak for coinguy1, a search on the topic will reveal that he will most likely recommend that you to leave it as is.
