Potentially dumb question..

badgerbadger Posts: 1,217 ✭✭✭
I just bought a complete collection of raw Peace dollars. I want to get them graded. These don't appear to be super high grades, but are uncirculated. I think they will come out MS63-MS60

Is there as much difference in market perception for PCGS vs. NGC for the Peace dollars as there seems to be for the modern cameos? .

For example, I find ANACS stricter on MS Jeffs than PCGS. I am trying to balance costs for slabbing, turnaround times and market acceptance.

Thanks
Badger

Unless they are better dates, forget about it. Your grading fees will far exceed the value increase by having them slabbed. Buy some airtights if you want to protect them.
  • Why not just put them in an album? It will look nicer and it doesnt cost several hundred dollars.

Depending on the dates, only some Peace dollars would be worth submitting in 60-63 grades.

If you have the right dates that make it worthwhile to cover the submission costs, I'd say send them to PCGS for better resale value.

Why do you want to slab, if the grades do not seem very high?

I'd put them in airtights as well, maybe make a nice oak case for them, with a spot for each to sit in. Or you could just buy one image It's difficult for me to explain the type of case I'm thinking of, but it would look nice, and I'm sure they make them.

Save your money. Slab the best dates only.

If there's a Dansco album for the whole set I think that would look really classy.

Thanks for the comments and the PMs. The set does look nice just as a set in an album. All the coins are white versus toned.

I am going to carefully check the 1934-S to judge where it would grade.

    Thanks again,

You said you bought a complete collection. What were they in when you bought them. Were they just a pile of coins? Where they in 2x2's? Where they in some Album? You said MS63-MS60. Odd. Most people would have said MS60-MS63. Are your coins deminishing as you look at them? What did you pay for the entire set? That alone may indicate what you should do. If it is a very large investment, it may well be worth at least finding out if any are counterfeit. If you are not interested in selling them soon, just put them in an album, plastic rolls or send to me and I'll keep them for you.

    Carl,

Thanks for the offer to keep the coins in a secure place.

I bought the set in an album and paid about MS60 bid for the lot.

The description may have been Freudian. I was thinking most looked MS63 with a few MS60s.

Haven't yet decided to keep or sell.

Maybe a few need to tone in an album??

Sell them all, and use the money to buy one or two nice coins.image
