1942/41 d mercury question

Anyone have some good close ups of the 42/41-D version?

I have 2 coins that look like they are the overdate under a microscope, but I wanted to see others to be sure. I've looked at a few coins sites but not many good pictures to see. One is pretty worn but the 2nd is in the

By the way, Hello, first post here.

Here is one I just sent off
Be careful there is a lot of machine doubling in the series. I think the Mint mark should also be repuched.

The story on the 1941/41 D dime is that it is rarer than the Philadelphia coin, but not as spectacular. For that reason it sells for around the same price. MXMMI has provided you with a good picture. If your coin does not look like that under a 10x glass, you don't have the overdate variety.

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Many 1942 dimes show traces of a 1 under the 2. Apparently, they overdated more than one die but did a better job of filling the 1 on the other dies. When I was a kid, I was all excited because I looked at one under the microscope and saw the 1.... but it wasn't the valuable one.
  • Looks like I have the ones of lesser value. Mine don't show quite that much overdating.

I did send them ANACS so maybe they can do a better job judging than me.

    Thank you for the picture

There is some good and some bad about sending them to ANACS. If they come back as a 42/41D you'll be happy but if it is a very weak variety, you'll feel bad. If it comes back not a 42/41D at all you'll really feel horrible. If it was that weak you should have just kept it and pretended it was the really biggy and everyone is just jealous.
By the way where did you get them? Did you pay for them? If so, how much?

I've had these for years just sitting and I always wondered if they are the real thing or not. I kept reading about them and leaning more and more so, I finally decided to send them in and see. I will probably spend the extra money and do the Crosseover to NGC or PCGS.
