I agree.

i also find it unattractive and unnatural.
i have never seen a half eagle, nor a eagle that ever
looked like that.
Many folks these days want to see "Pretty" and don't seem to care whether it looks natural for the series. That's fine, but again.... be careful out there. And yes, I include that icon coin you are using.
Nor has my mom's ring, or my grama's ring.
Why is it that 14 k gold that is so many years old, has been in contact with everything a hand can throw at it won't discolor, but that DE did?
<< <i>Saints, for some reason, can acquire more vibrant color than other classic gold series. I do not have an explanation, as the composition is the same. Nonetheless, I am fairly certain that this image is juiced and the coin will not look so vibrant in hand. >>
Can't be RYK, it's a board member selling, and quite possibly the image was taken by another "respected" member and ebay seller. Text
coins now days. i have seen it before here on the us coin forum.
Gee, STman, then I must be off my rocker.
Just to be sure, perhaps the OP should go through a box of Saints at the next Heritage auction to get an idea what the typical appearance is for Saints and perhaps look at a couple hundred more on the bourse. Surely, the OP will get an idea what the typical range of coloration for a Saint is. Unlike AT silver coins, to my knowledge, you can't make the coloration of a Saint better (except with Photoshop), but if you leave it alone for nearly a hundred years, it may develop some warm and subtle hues that I find very attractive.
quite pretty and legit.
then we have the all time fav orange and dirty toned.
some claim they see green gold color.. but alas i have yet to
see this in person.

Must be, I used to think I knew what certain coins looked like in person after collecting for over 20 years. But many of the fine members of this board have "Persuaded" me that I don't. Heh

Amazing to me that PCGS holdered that coin.

(1) 5K is nuts
(2) This toning is shake and bake for sure.
<Amazing to me that PCGS holdered that coin.>
The modern gold must be doctored, right? The Saint doesn't look right either.
Now, all you natural guys need to start liking crusty dirt, very dark stuff and so forth... else-wise, if you don't like "ugly toned" and you don't like "Art Toning" you are hypocritical....

Hey Carl, you know where I sit, More crusty for me. Some folks should enjoy and understand the "crust" factor better IMO. Many of these crusty coins have very nice iridescence when viewed and appreciated properly. BUT, everybody just wants to see "Pretty" and "Pretty" pictures these days.
And again, many collectors and dealers don't care how or why it's toned the way it is just as long as it's "PRETTY."
"Who cares how it toned.... if it's pretty and you like it is all that matters." Yeah, many dealers will say this. Myself, I do indeed care how it toned, and I like to evaluate this kinda stuff to see if it makes sense. Dog97 and myself always had debates and opinions on this stuff. Very enjoyable, try it sometime folks. OK, all done now! Hahaha
That's just great with me as I snap up every crusty Bust half that interests me. Ya ll will be sorry some day.... or not. Heh
old gold "doesn't look like." This coin could be perfectly legit. I would also think that the green on it is slightly enhanced. But orig gold can look like this. Whether its worth 8X MS63 money or 10% over MS63 is up to the individual. I prefer the nice orig coppery look with no additional premium. It is very hard to see green and red on gold coins even when auction houses describe them that way.
