Opinions on this raw seated dollar

This just arrived and it's a little beat up, but I paid an appropriate price for it's condition. Any seated dollar guys out there have any comments on the coin. I guessing it would grade about VF30 - maybe XF40. It does have a nick in reverse rim that detracts a little, but it does not appear to have been cleaned.
Who is General Failure, and why is he reading my hard drive?

<< <i>Looks like it may be one of those Asian fakes to me. Raw seated dollars and trade dollars should ALWAYS viewed with extreme skepticism and caution. >>

I agree. Are those bubbles in the obverse lower field? It just doesn't look right.
It is a cast. The dentilation is wrong, not to mention the stars and the numerous casting surface flaws. The rim mark at 10:00 on the reverse is probably where the gate in the mold is located. jmho

I don't think expert collectors would be fooled, but a novice would. There are several things wrong with them - the first is the weight. I've only weighed 6 of them so far but they all weighed between 23.3 grams and 24.2 grams. The next most obvious thing is that the obverse and reverse are 180 degrees out of alignment. I'll put up more pictures when I get the chance.
My suggestion is to first weigh it, then flip the coin and compare the sound to any known silver dollar. You will usually find that the coin is much lighter.
Excellent Post and I am very glad someone touched on this. People need to keep a sharp eye out for these. They are frequently on ebay.

Word.
Good to hear that you didn't get stuck with an expensive fake coin.
