Soliciting opinions...(Not selling, No MODERNS)

If you had a couple of low grade 1913, 1914 and 1915 Barber Halves, would you sell them right now? I have upgraded each of these dates and need to keep funding the engine to get more coins. I am primarily a set builder, but I do gather (nice word for hoard) the key dates in the series I am interested in collecting. Greysheet bid on each is above where I purchased them. I am not asking anyone to buy them (as this is not the BST board), I am asking for you to make it easier for me to make a good decision. By the way, don't tell anyone I am soliciting anything, either, or I may get in trouble on the board.image

Depends on how much you like them and how bad you need the money. I personnaly don't keep extras because of my NEED for more dimes that I don't have. But that's me.

    Do what you want.

  • I normally sell off any coin I upgrade. I just can't afford all the coins I want so any duplicates are instantly for sale. image While they may or may not be a good investment I figure I'm putting the money back into coins so I'll continue to have the same amount of money into my coins.

Aside from a few rolls of wheat cents and Buffalo nickels, I have only two duplicates in my collection.

I don't keep many duplicates because I'd much sooner own something else. And it often takes low grade coins a long time to go up in value. Barber haves just had a little spirt, so perhaps the time is ripe to let them go.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Sell or trade them all for one nice coin. I don't know why anyone would be happy collecting ANACS VG8 Barbers. At least try for XF.

Many years ago I sold all my low grade Barber halves and quarters. I used the money to by nice looking AU Barber dimes. Would do it over again.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

    Thank you for everybody's opinion.

I agree. That is the general idea. My Barber Half set is my secondary set. My primary set is a PCGS seated quarter set (everyone insert laugh and snicker and comment of, "What a fool.") My original intention was to get a set of full rim, decent looking Barbers for a set. What is generally available in the market, as raw VG8's, is pretty much laughable, especially for the key dates. So, now, as I upgrade my set (which I have finished), I buy VF-XF Barbers and sell the old coins. My main question to everybody else was whether I should keep the key dates, even though they are lower grade.
