CONGRATS Nevada: Finally one state did it right!!!

PrethenPrethen Posts: 3,452 ✭✭✭
Okay, I'm not a big collector of modern crap. But, let me tell you, the Nevada state quarter is by far the most beautiful state quarter produced thus far. Those horses look great and look like they're going to jump out of the coin.

My state quarter already looks like a bust. For some reason, the sculptor wasn't able to bring up the relief and detail enough in the mountains (as compared to the drawing) to make it look anything decent.

I was looking through a couple of rolls of Nevada quarters so I could put a nice one in my state map. I know, I know...what a geek. Hey, it'll be worth a small fortune in 2009...right? image I found a number of gorgeous prooflikes. In fact, most of the coins were barely marked up (Denver mint), if at all. Washington even escaped with very few abrasions. I think the reverse got away with the least problems because, FOR ONCE, the design actually covers most of the coin and it's not flat or most fields that can get all marked up.

I'm sure there will be a few naysayers out there...so go ahead...and say...."Neigh!"

Sure beats the dottering old fart with a cane on the California! The should have used the gold miner design from the 1925 Commem - but that would not make the current political correctness test!

I like the coin, but, they have the sun rising above the Sierra Nevada. The only place that happens in Nevada is at Lake Tahoe, and they sure don't have wild horses up there.
  • I thinkl someone needed to get a map out if thats the Sierra Nevada mountains on that coin.
I didnt think the SN range was in nevada in order to have a sunrise effect it?

Well bash away all you like but I still like Delaware's darn close to the best. I'm not sure if I like it just because it's simple, or if it's because it's the first one issued image

Nothing was as lame as my home state of Texas. An outline of a state with a star over Dallas? Real artistic and creative, guys.
  • Did you know that over 90% of the land in Nevada is owned by the Government ?

???? I think you mean the Connecticutt quarter with the Charter Oak. Massachusetts has a minuteman and the state map on it. Personally the CT is my favorite, but the DE is also very attractive in it's well executed simplicity.
  • I really like Maine

And I am ESPECIALLY proud of my native state, the Great State of Ohio !!! (he said, sarcastically)

I like Maine and New Hampshire.

And that has nothing at all to do with the facts that Maine is my birth state and my family lives in New Hampshire.

There are lots of mountains in Nevada. I didn't think that the mountains on the coin necessarily represented the Sierra Nevada (which is mostly in California, anyways).

And those flowers are 12 feet tall!

Maybe there could be an after market for 7-7-7 tatood on the horses. Or maybe a mint variety.

No, Nevada's flat except for the Sierra Nevada.image

When the design was first selected, the mountains were represented as the Sierra Nevada by the newspaperss around here. I just spent a small amount of time on the Mint website and on Google, and see that they have gone generic with the descrpition. I'll buy into that.

The design is called "Morning in Nevada."

isn't there a mountain range on both sides of vegas, and if I recall correctly, the mountain range runs all the way down to and thru Laughlin. I think i crossed over that road oh aboot a hundred times or so..

There is a beautiful mountain range in the middle of Nevada where the town of Austin is located.

I don't know, some guy between two tree trunks. Just doesn't really reach out and grab me. I will give it this though, at least it isn't a clip art paste up like FL, PA, GA, or SC.

Nevada could have used the state bird instead - the construction crane!imageimageimage

According to maps, the Sierra Nevada range does no extend into Nevadaso it must be Humbolt range or something else. Nice coin though

    Kip.......

"The Carson Range forms the eastern boundary of Lake Tahoe and is the only part of the Sierra Nevada that occurs in Nevada."

    Sierra Nevada

Edit... I forgot the quotation marks.
  • I just got my first Nevada State Quarter in change today....WOW

What a nice design...It was well thought out.

I like its "motion" and the state motto in the banner.

    WELL DONE.

I also like the Buffalo on the reverse of Kansas. Like the horses on Nevada. And like the large star on the reverse of the Texas quarter. That's about all I like out of 30+ so far.

I do think the less they place on the reverse, the better the coin is. Less clutter is better in this case (ie: The Kansas reverse).

The Soviet star on the Texas quarter is a bit odd, but none can compare with the LA pelican!
