Cards in a movie again!

Movie from 1999 "Blast from the past". Dad gives his son a box of baseball cards, containing 52 mantle and 33 Lou Gehrig. I didn't know they had "Dover reprints" back then! Just funny to see them on a movie!

  • Awhile back, I was watching an episode of "Leave it to Beaver" and the Beav was paying for an ice cream. He pulled out all the change from his pocket.....along with a stack of 1959 Topps baseball cards!!! I couldn't tell who the players were, but GOD I hope there wasn't a Mantle or Aaron in his pocket!! Also, the movie "A nightmare on elmstreet" back in 1986 had a seen with some baseball cards. The kid opens his dresser doors and there was a stack of 1985 Topps sitting in there. The top card was A's pitcher Bill Krueger...maybe thats where they got Freddy Krueger's last name from...LOL!
  • Rainman had some nice cards
  • In 'Stand by Me' there are 58 or 59 topps on a bedroom wall in one of the opening scenes.

  • In Stephen King's Needful things, a baseball card appears in that movie(dont remember which one). The book lists it as a 1956 koufax(link provided below) but I don't remember if the movie was true to the book and showed that particular card.

in Goonies dont they find a Lou Gehrig card on the dead guy Chester Copperpot that is really a 1970's or 80's subset card ?

Also.....Dennis the Menace ( the old Jay North one ) had some sick cards in one of the episodes.....may have been the one where Koufax comes to town to talk to or coach the kids......

In "The Sandlot" the ghost of Babe Ruth appears in a dream to Benny "the Jet" Rodriquez and takes a Hank Aaron rookie card back with him to the afterlife.

Rocky Dennis had a bunch of 55 Topps Dodgers pinned to his wall in the movie "Mask"
collecting various PSA and SGC cards
  • There are some fake cards of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig in the beginning of Field of Dreams made in the style of the 1914/15 Cracker Jacks. The Joe Jackson card of Ray Liotta looks similar to the real Jackson card from the set.

In Good Will Hunting, part of the Burdick Collection poster showing some very nice vintage cards can be seen in Robin Williams' office. This poster can also be found outside of George Costanza's office at Yankee Stadium in the show Seinfeld.

Not a movie, but on Sienfeld, in some of the shots of George's apartment he has a advertisement poster for 1995 (I believe that is the year) Score baseball in the background.

  • In an episode of "Hart to Hart", if I can remember it correctly, they were working on a case that had something to do with old baseball cards, but I can't remember the details. I do remember that at one point they were playing a "flipping" game with them, by holding the cards against a wall and letting them drop to the floor to see who's cards they land on. The cards, when they showed them closeup in their hands were old 50's Topps cards (You did'nt see the actors holding them), and when they cut awayand you saw the actors faces, and you could the cards in their hands, they were very plainly current Topps cards. A case of baseball card "stunt doubles"?

Also, in the movie "Pride of the Yankees", at the begining of the movie, some boys are playing ball in an old lot and one boy (might have been Gehrig as a kid, I don't recall) pulled some Sweet Caporal cards from his back pocket to show off.

There is a McGyver episode with Reggie Jackson that is all about a counterfeit baseball card ring and the three HR balls from Reggie's WS game. I always check to see if it is coming on but I have yet to catch it. There are lots of cards in it.
