I am thinking about going and staying Friday night. Is anyone up for getting together for dinner? I was thinking, maybe getting a hotel room with my wife and little boy and making a weekend of it, so I don't have to drive back and forth from Athens. It would be nice to shoot the sh*t with some of you fellows over some beers if anyone is interested. Just a thought. -Dan

If you mention beer, I guarantee spinaker will be interested.

We are flying in Thursday afternoon and leaving Sunday morning. Anyone know how far the convention center is from the airport?

Very close by Atlanta standards. Maybe 8 miles? I will have to look at a map, but it is not far from downtown Atlanta. -Dan

Am I going to be able to find any uncirculated coins for a decent price at the show or should I expect to pay full price plus some? I have only been to one other show in my life and was not very impressed with the selections. Don't get me wrong, I am not expecting rips, but I would be willing to spend on good coins as long as they are reasonably priced. -Dan

One of the great things about the ANA is they have a section for only World Coins, and one for coins under $150 I think it is.

To answer your question, yes, I think you can find nice coins at decent prices.

I'll be there too. I'm there from Tuesday to Sunday. I'm going to do a bunch of tourist stuff before the show: Stone Mountain, Coke Mueseum, the new aquarium, Atlanta Speedway, etc. I'm staying at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel. Sounds like the party place will be the hotel bar!

If it helps any of you.....

The Galleria is not in Atlanta. It just has an Atlanta zip code. Which is why it's so far from the airport. Charlie Brown airport is much closer if any of you have your own aviation type transportation.

The Galleria is near the intersection of I-285 and I-75 but it's on the top perimeter and the Atlanta airport is on the bottom of the perimeter.

But as long as traffic isn't backed up..........you have a 1 in 10,000 chance that it won't be............you can make the trip quite quickly as it's all interstate except about the last 200 yards.

I look forward to meeting some of you.

I take it that this humongous coin show is a regular annual event in Atlanta?

I recently picked up this medal from a gentleman who was selling off his unwanted world coins:
    imageimage
It "came with" a Dutch 10 euro 2002 Royal Wedding commemorative coin.

Anyone know the circumstances here? Was the medal given away to anyone who bought one of these from the Royal Dutch Mint stand at the Atlanta Show (either in 2001 or 2002)? Any idea what it's made of or might be worth? It's about the same size as a 5 euro commemorative, I think (it's smaller than the 10 euro, anyway).

It's the ANA's National Money Show. Here's a link to it. I would guess that the only shows that are larger or of equal size to this are Baltimore, FUN, Long Beach, and the summer ANA show whidh is in Denver in August. Here's a link to the World's Fair of Money.

Sapyx, you might also be thinking of the Whitman Coin and Collectibles Atlanta Expo, which is held every year.

(It's also held at the Galleria.)

Here's a link for more info: Whitman Expo.

The Expo is arranged by Whitman Publishing in association with Jeff Garrett and John B. Hamrick & Co.

The next show is in October.
