American Idol Season 5

For those that posted here last year about season 4 and are watching season 5 or any newbies watching season 5, what are your thoughts on this years show. I think Lisa Tucker has a huge advantage over several other contestants, seeing she was a former Star Search winner, but lost in final head to head champion vs champion round. I think that experience may help her along her way and help her go far.
Tonight, Stevie Scott has to go, I also think Brenna Gethers needs to go after that performance.
For the guys, I really did not like Jose "Sway" Penala and think he should go along with Bobby Bennett, even though he has a great personality.

To keep this from being OT, hmmmm Do you think that UD will produce a set of cards this year? I personally don't.

The number 6 spot for each sex is a toss up.
On topic: I wouldn't buy the cards even if Upper Deck did release them this year.
Season 4 I bought because I liked most of the singers, but I busted on that purchase due to the high price of boxes.
I don't think I would touch a season 5 unless it was really spectacular and decent priced.
Back to the show.
Kind of disappointed about 2 of the people leaving. Thought that Becky shouldn't have gotten the lowest number of votes, but felt she really didn't have a chance at the top 12 anyways.
Patrick Hall was another somewhat shocker, but I guess people didn't like the Patrick Dempsey/DJ Qualls type of look/sound. I thought Jose, David, and Will were worse.
For women, I would add Ayla Brown to your list of 6.
For Men, I don't know if Bucky will make it over all of the youngsters. I think Kevin has that outside chance do to the different look and somewhat odd cuteness factor. Clay fans will probably vote for him. I also think that there will be major support thrown at Gedeon seeing he is the only African American singer in there this year for the guys, so I could see that helping him make the top 12.
Last year's thread was American idol MOJO - glad to see a new one made for season 5!

My early prediction for the winner after only one show. Check her out and see how much she has developed in a short time from the beginning to the show last nite!

I really like Taylor Hicks - just something about his "way" that I like.

Mandisa = Jennifer Hudson
Lisa = LaToya London
Paris = Fantasia
I like Katherine too, hopefully she doesn't get arrogant. I can't stand that when contestants do that.
I also really wish Fleer would have came through on AI Season 3 and had the Auto'd William Hung and Reality Bits Trading cards like they listed on their Checklists. Those would have been awesome! If I had my way, I would have made the ultimate AI trading card product out there, but stupid Fleer messed things up! I am so glad those A**holes went bankrupt!

edit: just wanted to say that I'm not into the pretty boys and Elliott may be the best singer I've heard on AI - and I like the fact that he doesn't look like he just stepped out of Vogue Magazine!

Josh Strickland (AI 2, didn't make it past the hollywood rounds, didn't win his regular challenge)
Nadia Turner (AI 4, Lost in a head to head challenge against Winner Circle champion Jake Simpson)
Jessica Sierra (AI 4, Lost in head to head challenge against Winner Circle champion Jake Simpson)
Lisa Tucker (AI 5, Lost in Champion vs Champion finals against Tiffany Evans)
I haven't checked to see what prices on AI cards are going for now that season 5 is on, but I did sell my Constantine Auto /100 for over $100.

They really should have had more on the DVD's and missed out on some great performances.
Also, why didn't they have the following Auditions on the worst?
Dino Yazzie - Greatest Love of All
Edgar Nova - Escape and some song in Spanish along with the unseen 3rd audition in season 3.
They really dropped the ball on not having those.
I wouldn't think they would have to get permissions from the singers, so people like Juanita Barber and her rendition of What about the chilrun could have been on there.
I did learn one fact I never knew from the DVDs though. Carrie was born with a third nip which she has since had removed.
I personally can't wait to see how they go about the American Idol Syndication on Saturdays. I didn't watch the first season, so hopefully they show quite a bit from all the performers and not just Kelly, Justin, and Tamyra.
Maybe one of these days I'll be able to find a case of AI season 4 for dirt cheap like AI season 3 was. Those were like $8-$10 a box and you usually got 2-3 hits per box Auto/Memorabilia wise. I think there was one hot box per case with all 12 autos also.

I really wish they would get the rights to be able to release full seasons of American Idol on DVD. I would love to see a huge DVD set with all the extras from beginning auditions to the final show. I'd pay the $$$ for a complete set.

And for those who want a barometer of the quality of the singers that have passed thru AI.
Clay Aiken won the AMA "Fan's Choice" award - the competition? Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, 50 Cent, Matchbox 20 and Tim McGraw!!!
And Clay didn't even come in first in the AI competition!!! For those who didn't see that season, he was runner up to Ruben Studdard.
This is a great entertainment show.
edit: Songs I would like to hear Taylor Hicks sing: Unchain my Heart by Charles, Where Eagles Fly by Joe C., Desperado by Eagles, or something by Michael McDonald. And if allowed, a harmonica solo within a song.
Hopefully America gives Kinnik and Brenna the boot.
I still think the 6 will be Kellie, Ayla, Paris, Lisa, Mandisa, and Katherine.
Mike, I know you would love a Katherine Sealed with a Kiss card.
That's my overall impression.
Most of the evening I thought I was either in a karaoke bar, wedding or beauty pageant!

I liked the job that Elliot did and the last performance was probably the best of show.

I'm hoping that he is gone. Sway over sang and tried toooooooo many runs. Will could be a surprise exit. I think it's between the 3. I think Kevin's oddball "cuteness" saves him for another week.
Although many people don't think Gedeon will be in the top 12, I'd almost bank on it, seeing he is the only African American Male in the competition. He is also a good singer, so that helps even more.

Anyways, Kevin in the bottom 3 was some what of a surprise, I guess people felt he was safe and didn't bother voting much, or he really doesn't have that much of a fan base.
Next week will be interesting for the guys at least.
(Girls should be Kinnik and Melissa)
Depending on how heavy people vote, could make it very surprising.
I would predict that Will gets the boot along with Kevin after being in the bottom 3 this week. You never know though, there have been big surprises in the past.

I don't know about rigged, but there is a definite favorite 5 out of the girls--Lisa, Kellie, Paris, Katherine and Mandisa.
I think everyone here believes the bottom three tonight will be Ayla, Melissa and Kinnik, with whoever surviving being the first girl booted off in the top twelve round.
As for the guys, I think there is a favorite 4--Ace, Chris, Elliot and Taylor with the other two spots up in the air (although I'm pretty sure no matter how well he does tonight, Bucky will be booted).

I think this is going to be one of those very difficult years to predict the clear cut winner. I think the majoirty of voters last year knew Carrie was going to win. We don't have that this year. There are 6+ clear cut solid choices this year, 9 depending on how you look at it.

Kevin doesn't belong in the final 12 but that's what makes the show - actually - interesting.

There was a point in Kellie's performance where it looked like she got lost.
Who "made" her up to look like a Barbie doll? Did she have the prom to to to after AI?
She was totally out of character.
