Greatest One-Two Combos in Sports History

frankhardyfrankhardy Posts: 8,097 ✭✭✭✭✭
Feel free to mention one, or your top few in order.

1. Ruth - Gehrig
2. Jordan - Pippen
3. Montana - Rice

Those are off the top of my head. Still hard to argue against.

  • Shaq-Kobe

Even though they had their differences 3 Rings and another Finals appearance is hard to argue against
  • I hate to go modern, but Randy Johnson/Curt Schilling in 2001 was amazing come playoff time.

Wayne Gretzky/Jari Kurri or Mark Messier

    Mario Lemieux/Jaromir Jagr

Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

I agree that they are up there, but Jordan and Pippen won 6. That's exactly double Shaq and Kobe.

  • I wasn't making a case for them to be #1 on your list, only that they should be on the list

    Gotcha!

Absolutely, I might even put them number 3 ahead of Montana Rice.

    How about these.

    Mantle - Maris
    Koufax - Drysdale
    Cobb - Crawford
    Manning - Harrison
    Mays - McCovey

    Mantle-Berra

They were together 13 years, went to the World Series 11 times and won 7.

    Richard-Beliveau

Went to 10 consecutive Stanley Cup Finals and won 6, including 5 in a row.
This is for you @thisistheshow - Jim Rice was actually a pretty good player.

Nope! Albert Pujols and any other Cardinals player you want to name! image

Actually, that duo is hard to beat as far as production goes.

I remember for a short time in the mid to late '80s Nolan Ryan and Mike Scott made for a pretty intimidating 1-2 punch on the Astros.

    Hockeywise. No order.

Brett Hull and Adam Oates ("Hull & Oates")- Brett scored 86 goals his second year of skating with Oates.

Gretzky to Kurri, Kurri to Gretzky

The Production Line of Gordie Howe, Sid Abel, and Ted Lindsey

Good call RedHeart When I saw the thread topic I immediately thought the same as you plus a few more.

    HOCKEY

Wayne Gretzky/Jari Kurri as well as Hull/Oates and the production line particularly Gordie Howe and Sid Abel.

Jean Beliveau and Bert Olmstead clicked nicely as well. The Canadiens won five consecutive Stanley Cups in the late '50s powered by those two.

    Mike Bossy and Bryan Trottier

By far though Gretzky and Kurri were the best duo of the bunch I've mentioned. I can't think of any current duo's that even come close to the guys I've mentioned.

    BASKETBALL

    Jordan and Pippen
    Magic and Kareem
    Stockton and Malone
    Patrick Ewing and John Starks

    Current:
    Kidd and Vince Carter

    FOOTBALL

Although I never really watched it much I'm sure Emmitt Smith and Troy Aikman would rank up there..

Not #1 all time but they should be somewhere on the list. They are #1 for those years though IMO.
