Sorry, not even close to "the finest". Perhaps among the most beautiful, but not among the "finest", which should speak to quality/condition.
Please quit pissing in their Cheerios.

The adjective "finest" was used to describe the toning, not the condition.

I'm contemplating selling off one or two. They might go into my next batch of 'excess junk' (Well, stuff that doesn't fit into my collections exactly) liquidation. No worries, I'll honor my word.

Brandon: How certain are you this Peace would cross with PCGS, at any grade? 80%? 90%? 100%?
Either way, I stand by the statement, "it's a beautiful coin."

I wonder how much the first dealer paid? Discolored common date. Dealer grade MS63. 20% back of bid.

From where I sit it looks like a $40 MS-64 with $$$$??? dollars worth of toning on it.
The toning is covering up scraps and small marks.
So you want me to tell you if it is AT? ED? It's only a matter of time before that issue is revisited in this thread anyway. I believe it is neither. You really have to see this one in-hand to appreciate it. I believe without a doubt it would cross to PCGS, although judging by their recent track record concerning crossovers and grading, I wouldn't attempt to cross even a white Peace dollar right now. It's not worth the headache, especially when a coin like this can sell itself.
I would have to disagree. It is much nicer than an MS64. While I feel that it is useless to try and grade a coin from an image, several board members have seen the coin in-hand and may be able to tell you what they think about it.
I would agree that I think it is natural....just stored really funky probably.
Brandon is right....aside from a reg set, no reason to cross it. The grade won't sell it, the colors will.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

OK maybe it’s MS-65, but I see a definite reed mark under the eye and other marks on the neck. On the reverse I see the either a weak strike on the eagle’s wing or a the usual light scrape on the highest surfaces of the wings. The brown streaks at the bottom of the obverse may be slag in the metal (a downgrade for potentially high grade dollars) or brown toning streaks.
When you grade something MS-66, you get a lot more critical. I’m looking at this as if it were a white coin. Toning should not raise the grade.
The coin posted here would not be a consideration whatsoever!!
Edit to add, My opinion is based on the colors in the image that I see. I'm sure they are pretty accurate though.

I would have to agree that the toning this Peace dollar exhibits is not typical of what one would find on a Peace dollar. That is simply a reason this coin is so special. However, if you are looking for a very naturally toned Peace dollar, you might just want to pick up a white one because even relatively nice toning in general is not common on Peace dollars. Your opinion of "very naturally toned" seems a bit biased on what you percieve to be "natural toning". I happen to know exactly where this coin came from and how it toned. I need no further evidence as the colors are what I would expect to find on a heavily enveloped toned Peace dollar.

Seeing this coin at the show, dealers hype nonwithstanding , it's an absolutely stunning coin. The colors aren't as "thick" in-hand, a much better look than is easily imaged. The fellow who "made" the coin (not made as in AT, you cynics ) - his hand was almost shaking while giving it up... 2nd and 3rd thoughts, I'm sure. Whatever the cause of the toning, it sure is pretty, and looks natural.
Hey Brandon, is that bet still on?

Brandon/Adrian,
Is it your opinion that this coin was envelope toned? That was my feeling.
In general, I am skeptical when I see envelope toning like this -- I've heard that envelope toning can be accelerated.
That's not to say this coin is not attractive or completely naturally toned -- I'm just too worried to buy a coin like this for fear it has been artifically accelerated...Mike
<< <i>No slams on the coin or the company the poster represents. I'll just add my personal opinion here. If I were looking for a very natural toned Peace$....

I only gave my opinion and wasn't looking for a debate. I am very familiar how Peace$ tone and collected them for quite some time, looked at tons at shows etc. So I'm not just taking a shot in the dark. I tried to be as nice as possible, and no I am not biased on what I "perceive" to be natural toning.
Neither was I. You are a great guy and I certainly don't want to think I took offense at your post. In the same regard, I hope you didn't take my reply to be mean-spirited. My apologies.

That same thought crossed my mind. The original owner is probably going to feel like Dick Cheney's hunting partner when he sees the price tag marked on the newly slabbed coin, for which he was probably paid a pittance.
