Anyone have a PSA graded 1977 Carson or 1972 Wright available?? I used to have PSA 9s of each, but sold them last year when I downsized to just HOFers....

I can't believe Thurman Thomas didnt get in...What more does a RB have to do? And Carson over Derrick Thomas? I don't know...Rayfield Wright??? Iffy in my book...He was very good, but borderline HOFer..26 years to get in, then hes more worthy than Derrick and Thurman Thomas?? I'll never understand the HOF voters....

    Jasp,

I picked up a nice PSA 8 Wright rc last fall for $30. I'm glad I did now!! I'm still searching for a Carson. I really didn't think he had a shot - so I was concentrating on the other players. There's a PSA 8 Carson on E-Bay right now. Good luck on a PSA 9 - those 77's are tough!!

Don't mean to gloat image, but as I mentioned in another thread I bought the attached PSA 9 Carson rookie for exactly $25.02 on eBay 2 years ago

I think I paid around $30 or $35 for the one that I used to have and sold it for $100 about 6 months ago...Honestly after all that went on with Carson last year, I didn't think he'd ever get in...

There are 16 PSA 9 Carson RCs, so I'll find one sooner or later...Its all about the hunt, right???lol

The PSA 8 is already over $50 so I won't be bidding...Funny part is the guy selling the PSA 8 is the same guy who bought my PSA 9, craigzav...

Thomas was the surprise for me. There could have been 10 this year!
  • So does anyone have the 1983 Jogo Moon in PSA 8 or 9? With his entering into the hall, any idea on prices for this one? I see someone s selling 3 BGS 8's on ebay right now. Maybe this card will get more respect now!

A PSA 9 '83 Moon CFL card went for $193 on eBay a couple of weeks ago. The centering wasn't great, but I think there's only three 9's, so it was still a pretty good price.

    PSA 9 '83 Moon

I actually have the only PSA 9 '81 Moon JOGO card, which I consider his true rookie, or pre-rookie. It's not that perforated Red Rooster one either, it's the real deal. I tried to attach a scan, but it's too large. It can be viewed in my collector's showcase set though:

    Moon

    One of my favs.

  • That is a new looking one. 1981 Jogo set tough to find centered. The other one you are talking about is from the Red Rooster Eskimos set.
  • It's nice to see the Cowboys beat the Giants once again (2 new HOF players to 1). How about them Cowboys!
  • Does anyboy know which card will be used for Moon in the HOF rookie set?

The '85 Topps Football issue. PSA uses RCs cards from sets issued within the US.

They're usually pretty quick about this, so they might even be added today.

Funny how no one is talking about Aikaman.

The guy does not derserve to be a first ballot HOFer.

His stats are nothing compared to Moons. Look how many times Moon threw over 3200 yards and how many times aikman did. Moon 9 Aikman 2. If you run that number up to 3500 yards the score is 6-0. How many times did Aikman throw for more than 20 TDs in a season? NONE, that is right NEVER! He threw more INT's than TD's four times in his 12 years. That is one third of the time. Aikman NEVER lead the league in any stat category.

Here is where Aikman ranks all time. Mind you he played in an era that emphasized the pass (see Moon, Young, , and he had one of the best running backs and O-lines to keep the defense honest. I grabbed these of profootballreference.com so I am guessing they are correct.

    Pass attempts: 18
    Completions: 12
    Passing yards: 22
    Passing TDs: 48

Now I am not saying he is NOT a HOFer. He just is not a first time ballot HOFer.

Thurman Thomas, Art Monk and Derrick Thomas were more deserving this year.

OK, enough of my ranting. Here is too Monk getting in next year.
  • I think this first ballot stuff is a load of crap anyway. Either your a HOFer or your not. I don't get it. A players stats don't change once their retired so like i said either their a HOFer or not. Look at Carson and Rayfield Wright. Why are they all of a sudden good enough to get in now but weren't years ago. Dosen't make sense to me

A player like Aikman cannot be defined by just stats. He was on a team that cared more about winning games than individual stats.

He played with a runningback who carried the ball alot and took many of the scoring chances away from Aikman . The Cowboys of the 90's had a balanced offense and Aikman didn't get to throw the ball as much as a guy like Moon. Once the Cowboys got inside the 10 yrd line it was usually all Emmitt from there. That hurt Aikmans #'s.

How many times did Aikman throw for more than 20 TDs in a season? NONE, that is right NEVER

    That's wrong, he threw 23 in 1992

He finished his career with the 4th highest completion % alltime among Qb's with at least 1,500 attempts

Ranked 19th in alltime Qb rating

The most important stat for any Qb in the game of football is winning football games.

    Winningest QB of any decade
3 SB wins and MVP in 1 of them

I stand correct, he did throw 23 TD's on year. Either way, if you make certain players wait to get in (a la Baseball hall of fame), the first ballot entry is an honor.

One that Aikman does not deserve.

Offensive players in my mind who right now deserve a first ballot are

    Favre
    Peyton Manning
    Rice
    Marvin Harrison
    Curtis Martin
    Emmitt Smith
    MArshall Faulk
    Chris Carter
    Andre Reed
    Tim Brown
    Randy Moss

I am sure I missed some and don't have the time to go through the def but these are just others to think about.

    Others to add:

    Jerome Bettis
    Shannon Sharpe
    Rod Woodson
    Bruce Matthews
Tom Brady (hey if Aikman was a 1st ballot guy, Brady's a shoo in)

    Another to add??

    Deion Sanders???

Any punters or kickers? I think not right now. Even though Morten Anderson and Gary Anderson played for an eternity I just don't see the voters giving it to Gary, though he deserves it in my mind.

Randy Moss??? Not as of now.. And for who all was on the ballot why not troy??
    Rice should be unanimous
smith should also be a first ballot lock
the others I dont think are a garuntee, I think it all is up to who all is on the ballot.
  • Any punters or kickers?

    Ray Finkle

    Seriously,

I think Gary A. deserves it. Is he the all-time scoring leader?
