Martz to the Lions

All those high draft picks that have underachieved on that offense... hmm I think they will be very good. Even though I didn't care to much for him being our head coach I think any time should be happy to have him running their O.

I totally agree. I don't know if anybody can singlehandedly turn around that moribund franchise, but Martz seems well suited to this position. I really wish he were still our offensive coordinator, but there's no way he could've gone back into that role after being head coach - especially given the constant infighting within the organization.

Mike Tice could of won with Warner, Faulk,Bruce and Holt all in their prime. This guy is overrated and fits well with all the overrated
    Lion draft picks!

He likes his QB's to think fast and have great touch/timing...doesn't bode well for Joey H.

I agree, I think Martz is a great coach. He really doesn't hit a conservative game play mode. Why win by 30 when you can win by 50?

Martz is a great offensive mind, and will do much better as an O coordinator than head coach, and if Detroit drafts a good QB, they could be quite good.

Stalin, as usual, you're delusional. If all it took was great players, what would you say about Indy not winning it all this year?

Well the Lions need anybody with some creative play calling on both sides of the ball. They rarely go deep. They rarely blitz. They rarely do anything to keep the other team on it's heels. They have some pretty decent talent on both sides of the ball, but never do anything to utilize their potential. Coaching has been a major reason why. I never thought I would say it, but Fontes wasn't really that bad of a coach. They didn't have the talent then that they do now, but he got them into the playoffs basically every other year. Sure they had Barry and Moore was a top caliber receiver then, but their QB's were guys like Rodney Pete, Scott Mitchell & Erik Kramer... Defensively they also had a couple decent players like Spielman and Crockett, but not really anyone considered All-Pro material each year. Bring back Wayne, bring back Wayne - LOL image

So much for that idea... ESPN now reports the talks are dead because they couldn't reach a contract.

The writing is on the wall more-so than ever now... Millen is incapable of running a team and absolutely needs to be replaced.

There is really no excuse for a team being so pathetic on an annual basis, especially in a solid sports city like Detroit. It's a combination of a terrible owner, a horrid front-office, poor coaching, and a general failure to identify talent. As a fan, they are incredibly frustrating to watch on and off the field, it's just one bone-head move after the next.

I would like to know the details. Was it Millen's ineptitude or Martz's huge ego wanting to big a paycheck.

They said he wanted $1.5M a year which doesn't seem like such a tough figure to negociate around in the world of the NFL, especially on a team desperate to figure out a way to score. Sounds like a total debacle to me.

it was actually the fords. they put a limit of what they would pay.
  • Yet another screwup for the Lions. Can't this team do anything right?. They are pathetic beyond words.

As a Rams fan, I'm overjoyed to be rid of Martz the head football coach. I will miss Martz the offensive genius. If he ends up on your team, whichever team that is, pray he doesn't end up as your head coach. Horrible clock manager, time out burner, challenge burner. I'm not a so-called Warnerite (like Warner fans on the St. Louis Post-Dispatch message boards are called), but I still disagree with how that whole thing shook out. The Turley situation was a mess.

Of course, I'm still bitter over the 2001 Super Bowl. How does Martz forget that he has the most dynamic (at the time) player in the NFL in Marshall Faulk, and Faulk only touches the ball nine #@$ times. I place the loss of that game squarely on Martz's shoulders.

Although I do agree that the Lions can screw up a recipe for boiling water, there's no guarantee that Martz is the best person for this job. I think there are plenty of worthy candidates to get this offense moving. It wouldn't be hard to improve on their output from this year, so I may even be capable of doing that.
