Interesting coin. I am struggling to come up with a pejorative nickname for the die crack.

What causes the appearance of darker shading on the obverse?

MBT making a crude comment? No, we see that quite often.

Neat coin and a very large example, I'm not usually one to collect die cracks but that one is impressive. I can't say I'm surprised that it got out of the Mint, though, as much as these are specially handled it doesn't seem there are any additional quality checks. There should be other coins out there showing a progression from a small break to the coin in that auction.

P.S. for majorbigtime: Confucius also say "Man who like to toot own horn eventually find himself band."
Incomplete planchets wanted, especially Lincoln Cents & type coins.

I've never seen a die crack of that size on a modern commem (I consider this a commemorative). But the question is...will modern commem collectors be willing to pay a premium for its rarity, or will they shun it because they are in search of perfection. Obviously at the BIN level the seller is hoping for the premium.image
