Sample Slab Update - with pics of samples from the FUN show

I haven't done a serious sample slab post in the last few months and thought a update would be great for the New Year.

In my opinion Sample Slabs are becoming increasingly more popular. Working the table for ICG at numerous shows, I have seen more and more people come up to the table and ask if we have any sample slabs. After handing them one I usually try to strike up a conversation about the samples. Most of the time it seems either themselves or their children collect them. Prices seem to be staying strong and there is spirited bidding on ebay when certain ones appear for sale.

Also, my website has had over 20,000 hits in the last 2 years. Just recently Heritage has contacted me and we are working on getting info about sample slabs posted on Heritage's website along with a link to my site. I haven't had much time to update my site in the last month due to traveling and holidays but I will be getting to it shortly. I have about 16 new samples to add already!

Here are some of the samples from the 2006 FUN Show (number in bold will be the sample slab # for that type on my website):

PCGS 22

PCGS actually handed out three different states in this style of label: Vermont, Kentucy and Rhode Island. The slabs have the large hologram on the back and there is no barcode on either side.

NGC 43

This sample was passed out by FUN show staff at the beginning of each day. The 2006 show them was "rocking into 2006" and they used a Somalia 2004 $1 coin to match the theme. 500 of these were produced and 100 were given out a day to those who registered first thing in the morning.

250 of these were made and the label is similiar to the last few ICG sample slabs. It has the show date and pedigree on the front label.

Yes it is from Somalia. The one side is painted or enameled and the other side has the country, date, denomination etc. Its listed in Krause.

You mean this one? It has a 2006 Silver Eagle inside. The label is a "Collectors Universe" label and is pretty cool with the outline of an Eagle and the CU symbol. David Hall told me 20 of them were made so far, but they might make more in the future. Its more of a business card and won't be listed as a sample slab.

Somalia, huh? What short memories we have, very poor choice. Anyone remember Blackhawk Down?

    RGL,

the majority of the people in Somalia just want to live in peace.
lets not hate them all, for what a small fraction of the population
was up to during that time frame.

you might as well still hate Germany and Japan then.
And those pesky Vietnamese which we can learn a lot from.
    etc.. into infinity.

    kiefer, nice slabs!
also, i will assume that the sample PCGS slab is what they plan
to go with for the next few years?

Hey if you have duplicates, see if you can get mary kate to chew on a few. I saw her in manhatten the week before xmas and she was looking a little twiggy again, not to mention the bag lady clothesimage
