Congratulations to the new #1 proof Ike guy! Thanks Wondercoin.
MM: I believe that at the time I deleted the set, it was tops at both, pcgs and ngc. (Fantastic MS set, James!)

Congratulations to the new owner. PCGS PR70 Ikes need to be seen to be believed (for the newer makes- not the older ones...).

    Stunning!

SB: I guess that begs the question whether or not the "opportunity cost" of building a top set over an incredibly long period of time without the benefit of dividends, interest, etc, beats buying a top set outright.

    (19) years later - PCGS has still not grading its first PR70DC for 5/11 of the coins in this collection!! These coins are exceedingly tough to locate in "perfect" PR70DC grade. Some of the coins are now 33-35 years old - this series is slowly become a "classic" coin series. I still greatly enjoy locating a killer PR69DC Ike with monster (2 sided) deep, deep cameo and search for them nearly every week. I would not be surprised if over the next decade or so that these monster DCAM++ coins become very popular and sought after and an alternative way to collect great PROOF IKES, in addition to those seeking the PR70DC versions. A Ty 1 1976(s) Ike with two sided heavy DCAM is a scarce coin even in PR69DC grade.

Treaty? Were there injuns or frenchies involved? image

  • "Some of the coins are now 43-45 years old". Thought this series came out in 1971. I guess for the #1 set they'll make extras and back date them. image

Private treaty??? why so smancy fancy, why just say the set was sold to someone else or better yet why bother to announce it unless you conduct sales like this?

Wondercoin is actually correct. It is more FUN to COLLECT THEM.If you buy a #1 set you are short-sighted.Isn't it more FUN to seduce a woman instead of buying a prostitute ?

  • Well.... I am the guy that purchased 3 of those coins and I have been dating "Ikes" for several years. I just could not come up with a few dates that I thought were satisfactory and complimented the other Ikes that I have had for years. I hope my other Ikes don't take offense to your prostitution line..... we have been dating a long time. I think each of us has probably bought a couple of coins to finish out a set so if that is prostitution then Mitch.... I hate to tell you man.... you're the pimp. But you are a good pimp. LOL My Ike set will be my first attempt at scanning all of the ocins and adding that to the registry so if anyone has any suggestions on the best way to do it, I would appreciate it. Long live collectors.

Congratulations on your improvements, Parke! You have built quite a collection!

    Mitch,

Realizing that you have probably looked at tens of thousands of Proof Ikes...what I would really like to know is how many of the 61 existing PCGS PR70DCAM Ikes are you personally responsible for discovering?

P.S. I am still kicking myself for not taking you up on your Ike Set deal last year...when you assembled a bunch of great complete sets for a very reasonable price image

Ellewood: Only indirectly since I do not submit Ikes myself and never have - I have sold more than (300) PCGS-PR69DCAM (11 pc) Ike sets in the past 120 days. That alone creates the need to produce 3,300 more PR69DCAM Ikes to fill those sets. Even if PCGS grades the PR70DC Ikes 1/500 coins in PR70DC - that resulted in 6 more PR70DC coins right there just from those orders. That's my contribution in a nutshell. And, I personally inspected every single one of those 3,300 PR69DC coins that I shipped out. My son, Justin (14), is building several sets of the deeeeeeepest DCAM PR69DC Ikes he can locate and I believe he also personally inspected more than 5,000 specimens in 2005 to continually upgrade his 50 or so finest coins. One day if Parke decides to exhibit his #1 Proof Ike set, I'll ask if he would also like Justin's (11) best monster PR69DCAM coins to exhibit alongside the top PCGS-PR70DCAM set. I think it will clearly demonstrate that there is a place in the Registry for both the collector with "deep, deep pockets" who enjoys the very finest and a collector who can build an incredible collection of "undergrade coins" for "a song".

  • Mitch, Justin is always welcome and so are his coins. I even thought about displaying my half dollar collection some day soon, if asked. It is a pretty good run from 1857 through today with more than 1/2 being the top pop coins. I wish my son was interested.... he likes the history part but not so much the coin itself.

Parke: Your half dollar collection would require far too many PCGS cases!! LOL

I would LOVE to see your Proof Kennedy portion - you should discuss an exhibition with PCGS. That would be sensational for the Kennedy series as well. A future HALL OF FAME collection to be sure.

  • Hi Parke,

    Nice shot!!!

PS - We have a joke here in Brazil. If you expended chip money to dinner with a girl in a suburban cantina, she probably will be called as a “prostitute” if someone catches you.
If you invite a Top Model and be photographed with her in a nice restaurant you be a hero. It’s just an investment matter.

As usual - very well said! I can tell you first hand - Parke is "sleeping with" a couple winners of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit competition.
