My little white whale is a very minor but extremely hard to find item(S). I've been looking for a 1972 venezuelan stamp(s) for Nate Colbert. They are card #'s 57 & 126. Ripped , Glued , torn anything but sexually abused would make me happy. Please someone cough them up, well maybe not literally , but I still might consider the offer. Sonny

I have been looking for a 1952 Topps Duke Snider in PSA/SGC 5-7 with near perfect centering for a few years. One came up in the recent Huggins and Scott auction last year but I forgot to bid on the last day.

A more recent white whale is a 1954 Johnston Cookies Eddie Mathews in PSA 7.
collecting various PSA and SGC cards
  • Good luck on the 1969 Brock PSA-9, it could bring thousands and thousands when the first one comes up for sale. Everyone who is anyone in the hobby covets it! It won't come cheap

Gaspipe's post is from 2006. He now owns the one and only Brock in 9

<< <i>My White Whale: 1941 Reds Harry Hartman Set- no # DEBT OF GRATITUDE TO WM KOEHL Co., been chasing this card for 30 +
years never seen one, none has been graded, but they say it exsists? Will take one in any condition (ripped in four pieces and taped back together is fine) ok make it 6 pieces. >>

I"ve yet to see it either, and although I haven't been pursuing this set for anywhere near as long, am equally frustrated as I'm beginning to doubt it's existance. It's not on the uncut press sheet either. I've got multiples of every other card in the set, you would think one would turn up at some point.

My white whale, besides the above?
T200's of Chicago NL and NY AL in PSA 5
'58 Bell Brand Snider in PSA 7 or 8
    '60 Fleer #80 of Collins/Martin and Tinker/Martin
PerezSteele Great Moments of Richie Ashburn, signed
And unopened packs of '52, '56, and '58 Topps.

Had a few white whales found last year. Call me Ishmael.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

  • An auction for mine ends tomorrow, been looking for about two years...what is it, what is it, oooh suspense. image

In regard to White Whales, I guess there are the kinds that you never see (or even confirm if they exist) and those that pop up on occasion, but are too expensive.

    1969 Brock

didn't gaspipe win that card earlier last yr?

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • 1931 Churchman Cigs. Jack Dempsey -- No one on the registry has one and I've never seen one for sale on ebay. Hell, I can't even find the listing in the pop report or find evidence tht one has ever been graded.

1935 JA Pattreioux Sporting Celebrities Joe Louis -- Only 4 graded examples with none showing up on ebay for as long as I've looked and none in the registries. Bidding would probably be through the roof on one of these when it pops up.

  • 1967 Topps Punchout with Rose as the captain, is my current white whale. Punched, unpunched, I'd be happy. I had a couple of other white whales in sight, but didn't have the funds to be able to pull the trigger. Oh well, they'll surely come back someday.

In regards to the 69 Topps Brock in PSA 9, I believe Gaspipe won it for around $5k which, as I recall was less than he expected!
He will have to confirm of course!

  • For me: The 1997 Pinnacle Certified Mirror Black Mark Mcgwire (42 or 149)! For all of you who don't know 9And I am sure most of you won't.) the Mirror Black looks ALMOST EXACTLY like the regular 1997 Pinnacle certified Except it has a Refractive finish. the card is not gold or red or blue, but Regular old BLACK! An example or a Mirror Black is below!

By the way it is almost 100% certain that the 1997 Pinnacle certiffied Mirror Blacks are (Gasp!) 1 of 1's!!

The white whale has finally been captured - now time to find a 1977 Red Path Sugar Perez and/or 1972 Esso Coin "Tony" Perez version

Congratulations on the Perez! What a beautiful card. I'm not a Perez collector, but he seems to have some gorgeous cards. I just saw a PSA 10 of his 1977 Topps on another thread, I've never noticed how great that card was before. I also love his 72 Topps.

As for the 1977 Red Path, good luck on that one. I've collected Gary Carter for the last 15 years or so, I've had 2 of his 1976 Red Path packets but I've never seen a 1977. If you come up with an uncut panel or a group of them I'd buy the Carter from you, no questions asked!

1977 topps #177 Steve Largent rookie, psa 10. 4 out there, but I haven't seen one surface in awhile

it would fit so nicely with my #1 Largent set, with that one big gaping hole at the top.

Also, a Thomas Jefferson signed land grant, with James Madison as secretary of state. 2 Great signatures on one document. They come up on occasion, but soooo much money.

I have a bunch. The main one I'm looking for is the 1974 Deckle Bob Gibson. I am looking more for raw versions so I can put them in albums. Since these cards will be expensive enough because of the rarity, the lower the condition, the better (for me). I have found a couple of 74 Deckle Gibsons, but they were not the proof version and they were $100 to $150. I would probably pay that for a proof, but not for the deckle because that would mean I would have to replace the Brock and Simmons proofs w/ the Deckled. I want consistency with those. Maybe one day I will get the proofs and the Deckled, but right now, just one version will do.

I also know that some of these I will probably never own due to scarcity and expense. However, they will still remain on my list.

Why the sarcasm? It's not like I listed a bunch of common things. Go ahead - try to find any of those, except the 74 Puzzle Gibson and the 56 Pins. Those two, I can find, but it's way more than I want to pay. The rest - good luck.
