They really need to time their auction to come well after the January Visa bill is paid in full!! image

I just looked at the Brit listings. There are some nice pieces all right, but it pales in comparison with the auction of a year ago.

Got my bids in this morning. I also got the Ponterio catalog in yesterday and they have a few good ones also. They (Ponterio) also has many modern Greek coins from a collection.3Mark

Greece 1833 20 drs gold PCGS SP67 image

By far ,the finest known, I didn't even know specimens existed. NGC's pop on these are one in MS66 and one in MS63 (mine).

Edited to thank 3mark, I'll check them out too, I had heard rumours that a nice collection was going to be sold by Ponterio in their January auction. I might even finally make this trip to NY, if only to see them in hand.image

Re-edited to add that the Heritage auction takes place on the 8th and 9th of January, I thought the NYINC was on the 12-15th of January. image

I'm confused, why does the Heritage auction take place a week before the show? And when does the Ponterio auction take place?

    More supreme coins:

    Cyprus 1901 3 piastres PCGS PR67
a Gem quality coin with exquisite toning comprised of blue, orange and russet. Perhaps the finest known; we have seen no others graded this high. Estimate: $1,200 - $1,500. imageimageimage

Cyprus 1901 9 piastres PCGS PR65deep gray toning on the obverse with wonderful, multi-toned patina on the reverse. The toning on the reverse is the most attractive this cataloger has seen on any coin! Estimate: $1,250 - $1,750. imageimageimage

Thank you Mac, however the lots are not posted yet, they still have their November one as "current sale". image

The Swiss Federal lots on the other hand are very average, (Heritage), with the exception of (rarecanadian's?) 1923B specimen 5 francs that did not meet reserve last time.

Heritage does it's auction the weekend before so the dealers can place the coins in their cases. IMHO

Here's the list of firms doing auctions:

    Heritage
    Gemini
    CNG
    Baldwin's / M&M / Dimitry Markov
    Ponterio

Hours for the show: $10 admission good for all 3 days
    Friday & Saturday 10am-7pm
    Sunday 10am-3pm
    Early Bird Thursday 2pm-7pm $100

    Website: www.nyinc.info
    $5 off admission with coupon.

    He did!image

BTW - The Gemini catalog is very, very heavy on ancients, and pretty weak on World Coins - only 39 out of 608 lots with NO Japanese gold or silver.imageimageimageimage

One more.....I cant resist. You dont see these multiple taler coins very often - this is a monster in size.

    3 taler (1648)

    That rouble is a beauty.

Have you Russian collectors seen this?

A gold 5 Roubles 1904 in Russian government slab, the Russian government answer to NGC and PCGS, the coin is UNC, and although not rare, from what we can determine these government certified holders are very rare. Estimate: $1,000 - $1,500.
