  • Nice one! I'm gonna say AU50.

I would go with the AU53 range. Looks dipped and retoned, but nicely. Are those cleaning lines on the obverse? I hope not cause this coin is a beauty.

Since I know what the slabbed grade is I'll just give my opinion. These are known to be weakly struck and this example looks to be an exception.
Strike looks sharp (for the issue) As far as wear, it looks 55, possibly high 55. A little color, and I know these are tough to find with color.

What I'm NOT seeing is luster going beyond the periph. On a 55 I'd like to see luster at least part way into the fields. Perhaps there is more luster I'm not seeing though. I like the coin and please don't get me wrong. These don't come along often, but knowing your tastes and what you look for......
I'd bite the bullet and wait it out. Just my opinion. For the price these go for I would want some very nice luster.

  • That's an awesome example of an 1807 CBH. I'll say 53-55. Excellent coin!

    cmanbb,

A great original 1807 large stars(not 50/20) and a grade of AU 50 PCGS, AU 53 NGC. PCGS could 45 it, but I would re-submit if they did.

These coins are hard to come by, and you did well.

Looks lovely.image As for the grade, well I'll leave that to you Bust Half guys.

While the luster is not as strong as I would like to see, it has excellent eye appeal. Definately original and not messed with IMHO.
The fields are a nice gunmetal blue/green and the periphery is loaded with luster, especially on the reverse. The strike (as stman) said is very strong and with the color combo, a tough find. This is definately the 50/20 (you can see a bit of the 20), in the rev pic. O-112 I beleive.

I've seen that coin before. Can't rightly remember but I know I have. It's nice.
  • Excellent Coin. AU-55!!

Nice looking coin but (from the picture, of course) not nearly enough luster for AU. There also seems to be light rub in the obverse field which in and of itself precludes an AU grade...XF 45.
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

I expect PCGS would give this one AU55, NGC would go AU58. Gorgeous coin.image

You did not ask, but, this one looks to be at least PCGS AU58 with a mole. Super coin, and nicer than my NGC AU58 set piece.

Thanks for the kind words Mozin! Would love to see some of your collection. Please post some. Even if it's scanned images.....
Bust collectors are just fine with them and can pretty much read them.

Heh, I like to think of it as a "Beauty" mark. It's not into the coin and not as big as the image may depict. Perhaps I should send it to NCS?image

nice examples and AU50-53 seems appropriate for the first, but remember original coins are worth a premium...

    A VF.........................................image

While most were in the same ball field, NGC gave this example an AU58image
The coin is not an AU58, but is an AU55 IMO.
The best looking example I've been able to locate in some time.
It fills that hole nicely till I find a better example.

it's all down hill from here.image

I just had to comment (obviously I dont post much) - that 1807 has to be the prettiest one I have ever seen. I have been staring at it for the last half hour now. I have been working on a AU set for the last 5 years myself. Anyway love your 07.
