name a coin you just cannot find for sale right now and you want badly.

fcfc Posts: 12,793 ✭✭✭
I wonder how many of you have been on the hunt for months or
maybe even years to find a single coin you want/need.

I cannot find a 1889P half eagle (mintage 7500) or a 1890P half eagle
(mintage 4500) for sale/auction. I think I vaguely remember one on
ebay when I first started but never since.

I probably could not afford it anyway, but quite a tough coin. One would
never think those two would be at first glance.

thanks for posting

A good for the grade, ms62, '08 NM $10 Indian...well, as long as we're lookin, make it a little green with a couple or three very small copper spots in the field, excellent rims, and a magical luster that speaks of 1908, and a very crisp date with no dings on it, and maybe her buck tooth (overbite) will have a little rub on it so it gleams...I'm still lookin'.

I'm not sure about caviar - perhaps pate. Maybe in EF or AU it would be, but it's one of the only half dimes I do not own, and I have been unsuccessful in obtaining one. In one of the few opportunities that has presented itself in recent months, I bid twice the Trends price for one in the next highest grade and was not successful. Maybe next time.

    Baley:

Oh, yes. One just like that. Even with the hole. Not a bad coin, not bad at all. They are truly tough to find, and when you do, they are either damaged or the competition for them escalates the things well beyond any published price sheet. I guess it's just one of those things where you have to bite the bullet and just bid. Thanks for sharing that coin with us.

See my sig file. I'd give an eye tooth for a nice mid-grade clipped '09-S-VDB, I know of a couple of UNC examples but they are (a) out of my price range and (b) locked up tight in collections.
