2006 Pro Football HOF Semi-Finalists Announced

This may not be the popular opinion, but I don't think Troy Aikman was a HOF QB. The Cowboys success was largely due to Emmitt Smith and their tremendous offensive line. Of course Aikman was a very good QB who made very few mistakes. But a Hall of Famer? Not to me.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

You're right in the sense that he wasn't a big stat guy...He was also part of a very good team with a good O-line, HOF RB, HOF WR...But he was one of the best of his era. Not in the Montana,Marino, Elway class, but definitely in the Steve Young, Warren Moon class....

Or even compare him to say the Bob Griese, Roger Staubach, Terry Bradshaw mold..Guys who were leaders on Super Bowl caliber teams, surrounded by tons of talent...But still great QBs...I think he deserves it.

He will get in THIS YEAR..Mark it down..lol

Not sure why Harry Carson doesn't get any respect. 9 time Pro Bowler in a 13 year career, he was well respected by his peers as one of the best at his position. Now that he has come out and said he wants to remove his name from consideration, it will be interesting to see how far he goes this year.

I guess my sentimental favorite (Too Tall Jones) is going to have to wait for the veteren's committee vote years from now. He gets cut every year by the main votersimage
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.

Carson should have been in a long time ago.

At this point, with all that has happened, I don't think he'll ever get in... At least not while he is alive..He's a future senior nominee...

Too Tall was a fine player, but honestly I don't think he'll ever make the HOF. Too many other DL's ahead of him...

  • I hope this is Ray Guy's year. He's best Punter of ALL TIME and its a shame that the NFL year after year acts as if the Punter Position Doesn't exist.
Reggie, Moon and Aikman are No Brainers. I wonder which Moon Card they will use in the set. 85 topps ?

There has been a Cowboy bias when it comes to the HOF for years. Everyone knows it.

Rayfield Wright , Bob Hayes, Mike Irvin the list goes on.

I agree about Aikman and I think that accounts for all Emmitt's success too. I think that nearly any starting running back could have run successfully behind that line. Neal Anderson would have been a HOF rb of he were running in Dallas in the 90's.

  • So lets see. Because these guys were surrounded by other great players we should all minimize what they accomplished in their career and should exclude these guys as HOF'ers

If thats the case, lets go back and pull all of those Packers from the 60's and Steelers from the 70's out of the Hall because any average player could've been put in those positions and succeded.
  • As a Brown's fan, don't even get me started on Art Modell. If he were to get elected, he couldn't come to the cerimony, he would be shot giving his speech, if he even made it to the stand. Give me a break. A horrible businessman does not a HOF'er make!

I think they should have HOF consideration but I think you are missing the point. I don't think it takes anything away from theior achievments but put Neil Anderson or Dave Kreig and the Cowboys still would have been great. I don't think the same would have been true with out Franco Harris and Bradshaw.
