I sure am lovin those classic, southern branch mint $5's (if I could wish). They will cause most peoples wallet alarm to go off. If I was to reach for one of them, it will deploy the permanent wallet lock-down system for me.

Buy what you like. If you don't have a strong preference, keep your eyes and ears open and wait for a good deal such as a board member selling a nice collector coin that fits one of your categories for a good price. Gold is moving right now, and it is easy to want to rush on the bandwagon. However, many more mistakes are made that way, than by being patient.

i wouyld get a nice choice au three dollar gold a better date at not much more the cost of a more avcailable date like the 1854 74 78
they are great scarce undervalued in demand coins

$3 in ms 62 woudl have to be liek $4000 ea. i hope i can spark a nice deal in the BTS room ;-) i never even thought about $3. that much. i figured always way out of my league even with $2000. hmm maybe there is a chance. keep comin with the suggestions and ideas. i apreeciate this

There are a great many factors to take into consideration here. How much do you want to spend/invest ? What do you want them for collecting/investing ? How educated are you in gold ? Are you getting a good price for the coin you are buying ? IMO, once you have these questions answered, then you are ready to buy from any one of the options above. I own MS64 and higher in common grades rather than buying bullion because they hold more of an intrinsic value,IMO. I own $3 dollar gold in higher grades, because this is what I feel were my best buys/values for my money/ collection at the time of purchase. Anyway...

That is what I collect as my budget allows (along with any other orb that comes along 1795-2005)

I have a lot of the new gold commems, too.

I voted "other." In order collect any gold series in decent condition (MS-62 or higher), except the $2.50 Indians, you have got to be a multimillionaire. If you are a mega multimillionaire, you might consider a set of $20 gold coins or $3 gold pieces. I would never buy any U.S. gold coin in less than Ch EF, unless the lower grade is only thing available. (Example: The only known 1870-S three dollar gold piece was used for jewelry and only net grades to Fine.)

I collect gold by type, and have done it since the mid 1960s. In the current market I have hit a wall, unless I hit the lottery. I could upgrade a couple coins, but that’s it.

You have got to be a “very big boy” to collect U.S. gold coins by date and mint.
