I've bought from them twice with no problems, however I did see a Forbes article that profiled the comapny which was not all too flattering from their early start days. Mentioned cracking out etc. Hopefully those days are gone. Will try and finfd the article to post.
Peaceman: I know what you did, but I do it sometimes, and I IMMEDIATELY CALL THEM.
Deadhorse: I remember your ID before, and how I responded with the ol' "you're beating a deadhorse", etc. Stop shooting off with the mouth, when you apparently have no clue how dealerships and auction sites in today's tech world works.
And Laura is correct: I have been BLASTED when I pick on a thread about some low life's unhappy they didnt get the "big score", or more appropriately, didn't "get to steal it".
Peaceman, someone was quicker or smarter or better at getting that coin. Learn from it and move on.

Nothing like a loyal happy customer!
I want to see if I understand:
You bought twice from them with no problem, so their reward for making you a happy customer is that you are going to go pull out a negative article that details things from over 10 years ago and post it so everyone can see.
YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

<< <i>I pull up Heritage's web site on Thursday (as I do every day... several times a day) to check new inventory... I find a NGC MS-65 VAM 7B LDS that they just put up... finest known, very rare coin... I buy it and then get an email on Friday saying that this coin is at the coin show and that it may not be available... WTF. >>
You are disappointed, however that is a separate issue from Heritage's business practices. Heritage did nothing wrong. The display of a coin on a web site is no guarantee that the coin is available. The best advice given here is if you want a coin go after it aggressively. You may get it and you may not - don't blame the dealer for your disappointment.
Article is from last year not 10 years ago and I think people need to be informed. My purchases were before stumbling onto the article in a Dr.'s office in 2005. Complain to the author at Forbes.
TDN said it perfectly...all coins are subject to prior sale. Unfortunately you have no other recourse other than to find another example of the coin you wanted somewhere else.

Anyway, I too agree that Heritage did nothing wrong here.
You should have called them. Although new to this forum, I have bought coins from Heritage for more than 5 years -- my wife has contended that I have bought way too many coins from them!!
When I wanted a particular coin from them, I called and it works.
DLRC and Heritage are my two favorites and they have treated me extremely well over the years. And yes, I have had them call me back on several occasions.

I have no recollection of you, you must have made quite an impression.
So, my opinion is "shooting off with the mouth, when I apparently have no clue"? If you think I have no concept of "today's tech world", then you truly have no clue.
Fine, I have another opinion. Just developed it in fact. You're a rude jerk. No clue needed, you've made it quite clear.
"Lenin is certainly right. There is no subtler or more severe means of overturning the existing basis of society(destroy capitalism) than to debauch the currency. The process engages all the hidden forces of economic law on the side of destruction, and it does it in a manner which not one man in a million is able to diagnose." If you really wanted it, you couldhave gotten the cell phone number of someone there and asked them to hold it. In an instance where you see a great cherrypick, you need to go the extra mile to get your prize.

I purchased a coin from their inventory only to have them call me to tell me that they couldn't find the coin. Then a second call to tell me that a board member had it and was examining it and then they had the BALLS to TELL me they wanted an additional $140.00 because they thought it was PQ. So I told them they shouldn't have listed it! All they could say was, Well Do you want it or not? I told them to F. O.
I've had trouble with them on more than one occasion. A few months ago I called them and bought some gold coins. After waiting two weeks I called them back to see if the coins had been shipped. I found out that they had forgotten to ship the coins and two of the coins had already been sold to someone else. I have finally given up on them. I don't think they are dishonest. Just incompetent.

Your right the article was from last year and it was about events that happened many years ago- Old news

If we went back and dredged up the past of many current leading coin dealers from the 70's and 80's, most here would be shocked in what they found. But at least that period is over.
As far as leading dealers and crackouts? I would say most participate and some firms (esp. those with 13,000 inserts laying around) stake their business model on it.

It's very clear some posters to this thread have a dog in the fight...
This may be acceptable to those in the heat of the dog fight but for this by-stander it's very questionable...
If this is the case they should remove the automated "buy" feature and make the customer call for availability...
I see no up side to listing a coin on several venues if you can't keep track of it in a reasonable manor...
If a call needed to be made to pull the coin, I would think Heritage would make the call since they entered into an agreement to sale the coin...
Hypothetically... <a hypothetical situation>
This could be abused by an unscrupulous dealer...
List several "Stoppers" / "Cherries" you "may" or "may not" have to attract attention...
Then when the "Stopper" / "Cherries" sales the unscrupulous dealer reply's with Sorry... but we have another...
Flame way if you must but I'm just giving one customers view point...
