This is one of several reasons why I snipe. I set it and forget it. If I win, great -- by carefully considering my one single snipe, the strongest money I'mn willing to pay and still feel pretty good about the deal, I won't have buyer's remorse. If not, oh well -- at least I know I didn't overpay, and someone wants the coin more than me. Hope they enjoy it.
And it also helps me avoid the emotional (and often bad) decisions that result from getting wrapped up in the excitement of trying to win...and overpaying.
This coin is no good, unless you can never see yourself being able to afford an "intact" example. If that is the case, then I say go get'em tiger and fill up that hole!
BTW, isn't it sorta strange that this seller took his pic in the back yard? Guess he wanted to make sure we saw that hole.
I didn't see this thread until a few minutes ago....AFTER we won the coin. I wasn't too crazy about it, but Andy liked it so we pulled the trigger. We have no plans of getting the coin repaired, but rather intend to sell it as-is. It's B-2 (commonest of the 2 varieties).
Lost my mind have i? Actually a "cheap" affordable example of 1804 is high on alot of peoples priority list for completeing their date set of bust quarters. At just over $600 for this holed piece i can see it fitting nicely into a gapping hole in many collectors albums. Remember G4 is currently running in the $2500 range and is out of reach for most collectors.

Hey Andy, that's pretty clever. Fill a gaping hole with another gaping hole. Why didn't I think of that.

I don't like the hole either.
Without the hole, it's worth a couple of thousand.
With the hole, it's worth $425 IMO
BUT you could get it plugged and ANACS'd and probably come out with a small profit

If you can't make your own decisions, you are in deep voodoo IMO,
by the way, I happen to be looking for a nice crusty PCGS G4 version to match my 1796.
Why is your attitude, and your contributions to this forum, so incredibly
